In 1963/64 a group of twelve Scottish Country Dancers met in Len Whittet’s house in the Clarkston area to practice demonstration dances for the RSCDS. There was soon sufficient interest to justify booking the Mickel Hall and to establish a Scottish Country Dance Class.
Margaret Allan ran the class whenever Len could not attend.
During the early 1970’s Ella Nimmo took over the class instructor’s job for a short time
Emma Jamieson became the next class instructor maintaining that role until 1984 when the class moved to Netherlee Pavilion.
Irene Harper has been the Club’s instructor since 1985. Currently there are 100 people on the register with approximately 60 to 70 dancing each week. The class meets in the Netherlee Pavilion and runs from May to September each year. There is a waiting list with an estimated waiting list of three to four years.
The class in Irene’s time has raised in excess of £3,000 for charitable causes -

The club web site was set up in May 2004 and to date does not have a domain name of its own but can be located on any search engine using ‘mickel scottish country dance’ or ‘netherlee’ as the search field and accessed using the Netherlee Scottish Country Dance Web Site. The site is currently run by Derek Petrie.

Bandleader John Renton will be the Club’s accordionist for 2009.
