NEWARK NOTES from the Secretary
July 2002 The end of May saw Stuart and John achieving their ambition of riding to Skegness, and they took several of us along for the ride. In all, eight of us enjoyed a decidedly easy sixty miles with a good tailwind pushing us rapidly across the flat country. After an enjoyable night at an excellent hotel, Colin and myself returned braving Sunday's showers, but were partially compensated by a temporary change in wind direction. The others, returning on Monday, had no rain but the wind had returned to the usual south-westerly. Oh well, some you win........ The bank holiday in June would normally have been a hostel weekend but being so close to the Skegness trip there were no takers. In fact, at the time of writing I've yet to find anyone interested in a run to Elton (last chance to see?) for the August bank holiday. The middle of June saw the start of our Rural Rides programme, with rides on both Friday evening and Saturday afternoon. I'm not sure whether Ray and Jim were more pleased by the good turnout for the latter, bearing in mind the rival attraction in Japan, or the result of same attraction! Peter Robinson and myself made the trip to York for the rally this year, the first time Newark section has ridden up for some years. An enjoyable ride, but, oh, the dust on the cycle track from Selby! There we met up with Pete Gifford, who was his usual self, but apologies to any other Notts members with whom our acquaintances were brief. Mike Graham Page updated 19/02/03 |
