My design for the Phalanx Dalek was based partly on Raytheon's Mark 15 Phalanx Close-In Weapon System (or CIWS, pronounced “See-Wiz”), a naval automated point defence system built around an M61A1 (Vulcan) Gatling gun. It's used by over a dozen navies to defend their ships against attack from aircraft and cruise missiles.
