This is where I have a few mini photo-projects that are
more than straightforward writing. I am interested in
the tradition and aesthetic of combining text with image.
Children's books do this, but adult writing generally
does not - and for good reason. The interpretive and imaginative
power of an adult is more developed, so an acompanying
image limits rather than enhances the overall effect.
However, the web is a relatively new medium and while
the quality of content is paramount - just as it is with
other media - some of the rules are slightly different.
The web is not the printed page, and it can and does have
elements of 'multimedia'. It's a different kind of experience,
where the image is more relevant and closely related.
You may have to adjust the size of the window. There's
no easy way round the interminable problem of designing
for different monitors, browsers etc. At least you can
get rid of the address bar, browser menu etc. with a bit
of JavaScript wizardry.
I have mixed feelings about Flash. When the positive
ones prevail, I might insert one or two Flash projects
here.

I am developing this idea elsewhere; for now, this project
is my writing only.
On
Being English
Jeremy Paxman recently wrote a book about this: what
are the defining qualities of 'being English?' They are
not easy to identify and they are not static. This piece
of writing refers to a lifestyle and set of values that
mostly no longer exists.
People
Suck
A sad little tale of an online conversation in relation
to September 11th, and the nature of Internet based communication.
London
Greenwich, it's nostalgic value, and my current favourite
locations.
Walking
I like high-tech sophistication, and I also recognise
that humming computers and electro-radioactive VDUs do
not a healthy environment make. There's something about
organic imagery which helps restore the health that technology
subtly undermines. It's pleasing to the eye, and reminds
you of natural panoramas unconstricted by your small-frame
monitor and, perhaps, the office where you work.
As you may have noticed, I enjoy hiking - mountains,
lakes etc. and here's some of my photographs. Mostly from
the Lake District, but also abroad in sunnier climes.
The Internet is a high-tech tool for sophisticated communication.
I also enjoy more simple hobby-based expression, just
for fun.
