Calverton & Arnold District Pool League is the oldest league in Nottingham having been established at the beginning of 1978 and is affiliated to the English Pool Association (EPA), the governing body for pool in the UK. The league is open to teams from Calverton, Arnold and neighbouring areas within Nottinghamshire. The League usually consists of 1 or 2 divisions, depending on the number of team entries, and games are played on Tuesday evenings starting at 8.00pm.

We are a friendly league and now play to the English Pool Association World Rules, having become the first Nottinghamshire league to adopt full world rules for all competitions for the 2005/2006 season following a majority vote at the AGM. League matches between teams consist of 12 Singles legs in Division One and 7 Singles & 2 Pairs legs in Division Two. Players who have played at least 75% of league matches are eligible to qualify for the best overall average and highest team average competitions.

The winners and runners-up in each division are awarded trophies and prize money, with the winners & runners-up in Division One and/or Knock Out Cup Winners offered the chance to enter the EPA Champions of Champions finals held at Great Yarmouth, where they may play some of the best teams & players in the country in order to win a possible £2500. Teams are also entered into the league KO Cup competition, which is played to a best of 7 Singles & 2 Pairs legs format. There is also a Plate competition which is competed for by Division Two teams losing their first Knockout Cup matches.

Players may also enter into various individual competitions which include: Singles, Pairs, 3 Person Team, Ladies Singles, Mixed Pairs and Captains & Secretaries. The winners and runners-up of each competition also receive individual trophies and prize money. All individual competitions are played on Wednesday evenings with dates and venues allocated to each round.

The league holds a ‘Finals Day’ where the semi-finalists and finalists of all competitions play in the function room at the Cherry Tree in Calverton to decide the winners of the season’s competitions.

All Trophies are awarded at an end of season presentation night, which incorporates the team Knock Out Cup Final and also includes a free buffet. Entry on the night is free to both players and non-players.

The League continues to be popular and, backed up by a hard-working committee who donate their time and services free of charge, can only continue in its success and popularity.
