Dylan Thomas in America was commissioned by the Dylan Thomas Centre, Swansea in November 2003 for its annual International Dylan Thomas Festival, which commemorates the work of the Welsh poet.
In 2004 it played to full houses at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and received
five star reviews, as it did the following year. Since then, it has been performed in numerous Arts centres, theatres and British Literary Festivals, plus the American and Canadian Welsh Festival in Cincinnati, Ohio (September 2006).
The play has been adapted by Gwynne Edwards from the letters of Dylan Thomas, and every word in the one-man show is taken from Dylan's writings. The play explores the frantic last thoughts of Dylan Thomas in New York in 1953. His uncertainties surface as he grapples with whether he should live in Swansea, Laugharne or America; love Caitlin or Liz; write poetry or drama.
