We received this contact and invitation from Joe Fields on 11th February 2009 :
"I am Joe Lloyd Fields, administrator of the Fields Family Project at FamilyTreeDNA.
The website is at www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/fields .  We are gathering Field, Fields, Feld, de la Feld families etc and testing their Ychromosome DNA in an attempt to discover ancestors.  We hope that you will visit our website and perhaps join.

Jack French Delderfield:  (1914 - 2007) :
Jack was the last survivor of his generation of three brothers and two sisters.
During the 1939-45 war he flew many dangerous sorties over Germany with the RAF.
The group of five siblings and their partners called themselves "The Gang" and, over the decades, they "accidentally" managed to meet together during holiday periods as they toured the British Isles on their powerful motor-cycle, sidecar combinations and later via cars.  As two of the siblings married first cousins also named Delderfield, there were actually seven Delderfields in the "Gang".
A million precious memories of those days must be etched in the minds of their fortunate children who shared those wonderful adventures.
I know that they are in mine.  "Young" Jack (your septuagenarian webmaster).

The Delderfield One-Name Study Web-Page :
Robert (Bob) Delderfield has been researching and collating information about the family for over forty years. Click here to view his page.

Messages from Jon received in Feb 2005 read :
Several years ago I ran across de la Feld information researched by the Librarian at the Field Museum in Chicago on the history of the founder, Marshall Field. The de la Feld family built several monuments within the Strasbourg Cathedral.  Members of the de la Feld family are buried in large tombs around the Cathedral. A plaque there shows the family lineage, including Hubertus.
The de la Feld family funded the building of the Strasbourg Cathedral. Construction of the Cathedral began in 1230.  It stands on the site of a Roman temple, built on a mount above the marshy land surrounding the Camp of Argentoratum, (battle of Argentoratum 357AD) and an early church commissioned by King Clovis of the Franks.
If anyone out there has any more information,  please e-mail us.

On 5 January 2003, I received this email from David Coppin :
I have recently found with my metal detector - on a farm at Murrel Green in North Hampshire - a button with the motto Insignia Fortuna Paria, (picture above) which research indicates is the family motto of the Delafield's from Middlesex. The button is made by a well known button maker Firmin and Sons and I would hazard a guess that it dates to the mid nineteenth century and possibly later.

Any more information on this find would be gratefully received.

The editor of the Fingal Independent emailed that :
He intended to write an article about this site, as several "D" family members were ancient Sheriffs of Dublin and part of the area's history. He was going to send a copy of the article but nothing ever arrived.
I later discovered that the article existed, but you had to register on-line to read it.

A genealogist is someone who simply collates information that is set out in official records.  True genetic progression is not validated in any way, so perhaps the title should now be updated.  Webmaster.

Who were the immediate ancestors of William Delderfield, born 1781 ?  He was married at Princes Risborough, Bucks and heads a large branch of the family that is not yet positively connected to the ancient line.

About  R F Delderfield and Sidmouth in Devon :
The local museum has a small section devoted to RFD.
An antique shop on the High Street is named Delderfields. I have read somewhere that there are no family connections involved.  Perhaps they have been granted permission to use the name by RFD's family.

It was also good to exchange family photos with cousin Isobel in South Africa and to catch up with her news.

Did you know that Eric R Delderfield wrote some serious works, including:- "Kings and Queens of England", "The North Devon Story" and "British Inn Signs" ?

"It is fundamental in all fighting that he who strikes first wins, unless his opponent is prepared." General John Ross Delafield.

Have you any information about persons with the surname Delafield, Dollafield, Dorrafield or Delderfield who were born in the UK during the period from 1750 to 1800 ?

The "D" family lived and worked in the Tring, Herts area for centuries. If you have any new information, not already mentioned on this site, for example books, photos, etc, from the "Tring" period, we would be very interested.

Henry Delderfield, convict no. 3488, born 1820, arrived at Freemantle Prison on 18 July 1855, to serve his 10 years sentence. He was pardoned on 13 June 1857. Who was he ?
