Batley Carr tenants and residents association
Batley
Carr tenants and residents assocaition was formed in 1990 to stop
the rot on the estate.
At the beginning we had to play dirty to get noticed and to win improvements. But now we are working in partnership both with councillors and housing officers in Kirklees.
We won £5.4 million refurbishment of the estate. The Dales Flats - once a human dustbin where no one wanted to live - has now become a sought-after place to live. There are new playgrounds for the children and the area is protected by Closed Circuit Television and a Concierge control service for visitors.
We are members of Kirklees Federation of Tenants and Residents Associations so we keep up to date with local and national issues. We campaign with the other Batley tenants and residents associations to improve our housing services.
We have just celebrated our tenth anniversary with the support of councillors and the federation. The partnership is about day to day working with our caretaker, Nick Lee and our estate management officer, Tom Mallon.
