MOSAIC
(Multi-Organisational Support for Arts in Communities)
Batley Carr MOSAIC is a
well established neighbourhood-based group which
grew out of a 3-year Artist-in-Residence scheme run on Batley
Carr Estate
during the Batley City Challenge programme (1995-98). Initially
the project
was led by Public Arts (based in Wakefield), but gradually gained
funding
(from KMC Community Development Services and Batley Cultural Fund)
to
continue.
This support enabled MOSAIC
to develop into a locally-run project which is
supported by Loca (the Cultural Development Agency). A Steering
Group was
constituted in Autumn 1998 and MOSAIC now employs a half-time
Arts
Co-ordinator to undertake development work with local groups and
to
organise the kinds of projects they wish to see happening.
MOSAlC's purpose, as a group
of local residents and professionals working
in the neighbourhood, is to co-ordinate arts projects in Batley
Carr and
promote the involvement of local residents and groups in a range
of
creative activities.
