Mobile Phone Mast Campaign
- Bishop's Stortford Conservatives are
opposed to the inappropriate sightings of any new telecommunications
masts
- Bishop's Stortford Conservatives
encourage the sharing of masts where possible.
- Bishop's Stortford Conservatives
believe that rather than refusing mast applications, they should suggest
alternative sites.
Bishop's Stortford Conservatives were instrumental in getting
East Herts District Council to advise properties close to proposed masts
sites of an application. There is no legal requirement to do this,
however East Herts District Council now go above their legal responsibilities.
Well done East Herts District Council!
Bishop's Stortford Conservatives were instrumental in getting
Bishop's Stortford Town Council to adopt planning policies regarding
new telecommunications masts. Whilst these have no legal status it does
help in the public battle against mobile phone masts
In August 2006, Bishop's Stortford Conservatives created the Bishop's Stortford
Town Council Telecommunication mast policy: (this received all party
support)
Bishop’s Stortford Town Council
Planning Policy BS005
Bishop’s Stortford Town Council objects to any new telecommunication
mast applications on the grounds of public health and safety, appearance
and that no masts of any height should be placed within 250m of a residential
area and 500m of any School. The Council encourages the sharing of masts
with multiple operators before any new application be considered.
Reasons:-
• That radiation from antennas on these masts may cause
long term health problems, especially with young children where a mast is
located close to a playschool, nursery, school or college.
• The perceived danger could lead to stress related illnesses.
• Public health and safety concerns about radiation have
not been conclusively proven in any direction and until they are so, Bishop’s
Stortford Town Council will, in the public interest, continue to object to
all applications.
• Generally, telecommunication masts are of an unsightly
appearance and detrimental to the visual aspect of the Town.
