Gary has lived in Bishop’s Stortford for more than 20 years; most
of that time in Silver Leys. He is married with two daughters; the younger one
is at University and the older one is still at home as she has a learning
disability.
Gary is a company director
and his business has been in Bishop’s Stortford for six years. He has been a member of the congregation of
St Michael’s Church for more than 20 years. He enjoys watching sports of many
kinds and is a regular spectator at football matches.
In his time in Bishop’s Stortford, Gary
has been:
- a
Director of the NHS Trust that ran the Herts & Essex Hospital
- a
Governor of Summercroft
School
- a member
of the Parochial Church Council for St Michael’s Church
- a member
of East Herts Community Health Council
- a trustee
of a residents’ association
- Chairman
of a youth club
He has followed the developments in Bishop’s Stortford over the last two
decades and now feels able to contribute to and influence more directly in
local authority matters.
Gary says ‘It is important
that we are responsive to the current economic climate and that the costs of
the Town Council are affordable to the Council Tax payer. That does not mean
that the Town Council should be less influential and there are major planning
issues around the development of the town centre, the continuing tendency to
build additional properties in larger gardens, the plans for new secondary
schools on Green Belt land, the growth of Stansted airport and the major
housing developments in Elsenham and Henham.’
