Romance between the Main Characters on the Show

Buffy series 1 to 6 has shown us much romance, heartbreak, true love and quick flings and this page is dedicated to all the sparks on screen

Series 1:

This sees Buffy moving to Sunnydale. She tries dating Owen and Cordelia tries to catch Owen's interest but Owen remains focused on Buffy. She realises he just wants danger so she decides its not meant to be.

Then her romantic interests turn to the brooding Angel. Their relationship is put to its first test when she realises his true form as a vampire and she catches him feeding off her mother. It turns out not to be him and that he has a soul so their romance continues.

Willow since she was young has been in love with Xander but he does not notice her and her romantic emotions for him because he is into Buffy.

Xander is attracted to a preying she mantis in its false human form but is saved by the Buff.

Willow falls in love with a demon in the computer who is talking to her over a chat room. She almost gets her and her friends killed.

Xander's love for Buffy brings her back to life when he forces Angel to come with him to help Buffy against the Master and Xander performs CPR to save Buffy after she drowned.

Series 2:

Things get worse when Xander falls for an Inca mummy who sucks the life out of men by kissing them.

Giles has a crush on the computer teacher, Miss Calendar but that goes wrong when Miss Calendar's life is put in danger due to Giles's past as the Ripper. When she forgives him they kiss but later it ends again when he finds out about her involvement in the losing of Angel's soul. She tries to fix it but Angelus kills her.

Xander and Cordelia start kissing.

Joyce starts dating but Buffy realises that her mum's boyfriend is more than he really seems, which is a homicidal robot.

Willow finds out about Xander and Cordelia. Her romantic interests change from Xander to Oz who is majorly into her and they start dating.

Cordelia breaks up with Xander due to peer pressure when he's saying that he thinks their relationship is more than just hormones.

However they get back together because Cordelia really likes him.

Buffy and Angel's intimate moment takes away his soul and he torments her. At first Buffy is too attached to kill him but is prepared to when he wants to free the demon Acothla. In a heartbreaking moment Buffy kills Angel who has had his soul restored to save the world and leaves town.

Xander realises he loves Willow.

Series 3:

Buffy starts dating a boy at school named Scott but he ends their relationship.

Angel returns from hell, a wild animal and eventually the group find out and Buffy and Angel, who has now recovered and is back to normal, try just to be friends.

Xander and Willow start kissing and Oz and Cordelia find out. Neither Oz nor Cordelia will listen to their apologies.

Cordelia becomes interested in Buffy's new watcher , Wesley, and he returns her interest but tries not to act on it because of her student status.

Angel pretends to be bad and kisses Faith....lots, to trick her into giving them more information on the mayor's ascension.

Angel and Buffy break up for good because he realises his relationship with Buffy is unfair to her and he loves her too much to allow that. However he shows up at her prom and they have one last dance. After they stop the mayor's ascension, he leaves to go to LA.

Oz and Willow get back together.

Wesley and Cordelia kiss which goes awfully so he goes back to England.

Series 4:

Oz seems drawn to another girl who turns out to be a she-wolf. Oz leaves Willow and leaves town to try and control the wolf inside him because of some things the other she-wolf had said.

Willow is very depressed.

A boy named Parker seems sensitive and kind. He and Buffy have an intimate night and he never calls again, leaving her upset.

Then she and the Professor's assistant Riley Finn become romantically involved. They find out each other's secrets and become serious.

Riley realises she doesn't love him but he loves her with all his heart.

Giles's girlfriend from England, Olivia, comes over for a few days then leaves again.

Willow performs a spell that backfires and for a little while Spike and Buffy are engaged and kissing, but all is straightened out.

Willow becomes romantically involved with Tara and Oz returns but Willow chooses Tara.

Series 5:

Tara and Willow's relationship is put to a great test when her family tells them that she is a demon. Fortunately , its just a family legend and the couple stay together.

Dawn arrives in their lives, and has a crush on Spike.

Spike admits his love for Buffy who rejects him sending him back into the arms of Drusilla, but then he realises he still loves the Slayer.

Riley starts paying to get sucked by vampires, because he thinks they needed him, unlike Buffy. Buffy finds out and he gives her the ultimatum of "I'm leaving unless you give me a reason to stay". Buffy runs but misses him as he takes off in the helicopter. He cant hear her screaming and she watches her lover leave her life.

Anya and Xander become a very serious couple. Joyce tries dating again but sadly she passes away from a brain tumor. This puts strain on Buffy and Dawn.

Glory brain-sucks Tara but Willow sticks by her.

Local-nerd Warren has created a girl-bot who is hopelessly in love with him. When she is destroyed Spike puts in an order for his own Buffy-bot.

Spike is captured by Glory and the gang and Buffy find out about the Buffy robot. Buffy needs to get Spike from Glory because she might discover who the key is. Buffy needs to know if Spike told about Dawn so she poses as the B-bot. When she finds out he didn't tell she kisses him. He realises who it is and she walks away.

Xander proposes to Anya and Buffy sacrifices her life to save the world. Willow reverses what Glory did to Tara so she is back to normal. Spike and all the Slayerretes are grieving about Buffy's death.

Series 6:

Xander and Anya announce their engagement.

The group bring Buffy back to life. Spike is so happy because the woman he loved was dead but now is alive.

Tara leaves Willow because she is doing too much magic.

Willow realises she has a magic problem when she almost gets Dawn killed.

Spike and Buffy get intimate but she does not love him, he's just 'convenient'.

Riley returns to Sunnydale but he is married. Buffy ends her relationship with Spike.

Anya and Xander's marriage ceremony fails because Xander realises he is not ready and Anya is offered her vengeance demon powers back which she accepts.

Willow and Tara flirt a little at the wedding. Things between them are a bit better now Willow has stopped magic. They get back together but that ends when Tara is killed by a stray bullet.

Willow turns evil and kills Warren. Giles returns with borrowed magic. She steals it from him during the fight and it taps into her humanity and this means Xander is able to stop her because of the love, (in the non-romantic sense), that they have for each other.

Spike attacks Buffy and heads to Africa to get a demon to return him 'to his former self, so Buffy can get what she deserves'. After passing the required tests the demon grants his wish and returns his soul. So where does this leave Spike and Buffy?

Series 7:

Spike and Buffy continuously have 'moments' and she knows he has a soul.

Xander tries to save Anya from Buffy who tries to kill her. 

Due to a magic spell all the girls (including Willow) fall in love with the high school jock but return to normal when the spell is broken.

Willow and Kennedy (a potential Slayer) flirt and eventually kiss. Willow is upset because she forgot Tara but Kennedy and Willow get through it. 

Buffy has Spike's chip removed (when it began misfiring) because she feels he can be a good man.

Buffy goes on a date with the school Principal but he realises what is between Spike and Buffy. Buffy tells Spike that she is not ready for Spike to not be there yet.

Xander goes on a date with a girl who turns out to be a demon. Anya gets jealous. 

Kennedy and Willow go through a bad patch when Kennedy realises what dark Willow is like but they make up.

Xander and Anya admit they still love each other, sleep together but don't want to get back together.
