She was a vengeance demon for 1124 years.
She came to Sunnydale and granted the wish of Cordelia who wished Buffy had never come to Sunnydale. In the alternate reality Giles smashed her power centre leaving her mortal and without powers at Sunnydale High School.
She and Xander fell in love and she was accepted into the Scooby Gang. Obviously the others had let the things that had happened in the past not bother them.
Anya has started to become more in touch with her human side but still shows some ignorance and lack of tact, from her demon-nature.
Since Giles left for England Anya is now in charge of the Magic Box and engaged to Xander.
However Xander runs out just before the wedding when a creepy old man shows him his future and Anya is offered her vengeance powers back.
The Scoobies find out about her vengeance powers but still treat her the same, because she never really uses her powers for vengeance.
She helps fight Willow and she seems to be growing increasingly attached to Giles as shown in the final episode of series 6 when she spends time with him when she thinks he is dying and her concern and feeling for him are shown in her actions and words. These feelings are not those of a romantic nature.
In series 7 Anya begins to use her vengeance powers until Buffy tries to kill her and Anya removes herself from the demon fold. Anya returned to the Scoobies.
