Race Report:Paul was yet again hit by mechanical problems. Having struggled with pace all weekend, Paul
was on his quickest qualifying lap when he crashed. The bike was repaired for race day, Paul had a slow steady start. He was starting
to make good progress through the pack when the bike started to leak oil, giving Paul no choice but to retire. The young rider was
totally gutted and was so disappointed as this is his second mechanical failure in a row.
Snetterton
Race result: DNF
Race Report:Bad luck seems to be following us at the moment. Paul had been improving on his times all weekend.
He had a great 2nd qualifying session and was looking forward to the race as Snetterton is one of his favourite circuits. Paul had moved
up to 15th place in the race and was in 1st place in cup when disaster.... as he came across the line on lap 14 the bike slowed. Paul had
mechanical failure causing him to retire from the race. Such disappointment when he was on course for his first win and championship
points.
Paul Jordan: "I'm obviously really disappointed with how the race turned out as we'd been having a really strong weekend. I'd been chipping away at
my times throughout the two days of practice and qualifying and was running a really good pace so felt confident coming into the race.
I was running in the top 15 overall and thought I'd got the Cup race in the bag but the bike just stopped and that was that. I feel for
the team as they gave me a great bike all weekend so a big thank you to them for all their work and I'm just sorry we couldn't get the
result we deserved."
Knockhill
Race result: DNF
Race Report:Sadly Paul didn't have the result he expected at a very wet and
windy Knockhill. Racing was delayed and races cancelled due to the appalling weather conditions. It was eventually decided to run the Supersport race.
Paul was moving up through the field and whilst in 2nd place in the cup, he crashed heavily resulting in the race being red flagged and Paul
receiving immediate medical attention. Paul was released from the medical centre and is under going intensive Physiotherapy on his shoulder
to ensure he is ready to challenge again at Snetterton.
Paul Jordan: "I hit the white line on and highsided, but luckily I'm just a bit battered and bruised. I'm disappointed for myself and the team.
I was struggling on Friday and couldn't get on the pace but I improved on Saturday but it was too far to catch up really. I'm looking forward to
Snetterton as I go well there so hopefully we can get back up there in the championship."
Mallory Park
Race result: 15th
Race Report:Paul was once again on the podium, Paul crossed the line in 2nd
place in the cup and 15th overall to pick up a further main championship point.
Paul Jordan: "I felt a lot better this weekend because we'd been testing here before the meeting and that definitely helped. It was a lot
more positive compared to Cadwell and I'm a lot happier. We had some brake problems at the start of the weekend but my technician sorted it
out for me, so it's a big thanks to the team for all their hard work. I'm leaving here on a high so hopefully we can progress from here again
at Knockhill next weekend."
Cadwell Park
Race result: 24th
Race Report:Another disappointing round for Paul, having lost most of Friday free practice
time due to mechanical problems with the bike, Paul was struggling to adapt his riding to the 600 at Cadwell. Paul qualified 23rd on the grid, Paul
finished the race in a disappointing 24th .
Paul Jordan: "I'm very disappointed with my result today. I made a good start but then got stuck in a rut, I got by several riders but then
developed arm pump with six laps to go and couldn't hold my position. It's a very physical circuit and I found it tough out there. I had been
chipping away at my times all weekend and I would like to say a huge well done to all the guys at GNS Racing who are putting in so much effort,
I'm just disappointed for them as well as myself."
Oulton Park
Race result: DNF
Race Report:A disappointing weekend for Paul, having struggled during free practice and first qualifying.
Paul put in an amazing performance during 2nd qualifying, although Paul was in a lot of pain with arm pump and had been receiving physio
during the day, he managed to qualify in a respectable 18th.
Race day the out lap, Paul's bike suffered a mechanical failure, resulting in Paul requiring medical assistance track side. Paul was
taken by ambulance to the medical centre for further assessment and xrays. He was given the all clear.
Paul: "I'm feeling very sore at the moment and just very disappointed as I felt confident we could have scored some good points again today.
There was simply nothing I could do though and when I went in to Island, there was a problem with the throttle and down I went. Luckily
nothing's broken so I'll be looking to bounce back at Cadwell next time out."
Thruxton
Race result: 2nd
Race Report:Paul finished 13th in the main Supersport Championship to score his first points and also had another podium in the cup crossing the line in 2nd place.
Paul said "The bike was working great for me this weekend and I'm getting used to the 600cc bike all the time so I'm well pleased with the result.
I didn't get the greatest of starts but it was better than at Brands and although I had a couple of wee moments going into the first corner,
I sorted them out as the race went on and just sat behind AJ ready to make my move on the last lap. It all went to plan perfectly and a big thank
you to the team for all their support and effort this weekend, they played a huge part in getting me up there this weekend so roll on Oulton!"
Brands Hatch Indy
Race result: 3rd
Race Report: Paul had a very succesful 1st race in British Supersport At Brands securing his first podium in 600 class.
Paul was 3rd in cup, he also achieved the fastest lap and was 18th overall in main championship.
2009 Results from the GP 125
2009 Season Review
The 2009 season has now drawn to an end. It has been an up and down year for me. Competing in Moto GP at Donington, my race win at Snetterton and my podium at Thruxton are the biggest highs of the season. The low had to be my hand injury at Knockhill, which affected me for several races.
I also had to overcome some emotional challenges during the season, the hardest one was when my cousin was tragically killed at the Northwest 200.
I had set my self a target of finishing 5th or higher in the Championship and was able to gain 5th position overall. I was disappointed as I felt I could have finished a higher position but injuries, mechanical failures, and the weather didn’t help with my title challenge this season.
In 2010, I would like to move into the British Supersport 600 class, I have already tested a 600 at Mallory and am in talks with teams for a possible ride next year.
I would like to thank all my friends, family and sponsors for their continued support and also KRP for giving me the opportunity to compete in 125 championship for the past 2 years.
Brands Hatch Indy 10th – 13th April 2009
Qualified: 4th. Race: 5th
Race Result: Front row start for opening race of the season, good start after long winter break.
Not the best of race starts, 13th on lap one. Started to pick up the race pace and gradually moved through the field to 4th place. I continued to battle
with James Lodge for several
laps, I finally crossed the line in 5th place.
Oulton Park 2nd – 4th May 2009
Qualified: 5th. Race: DNF
Race Result: Good race start, on lap 5, I achieved the fastest lap of the race. Unfortunately whilst I was challenging
for 2nd place and coming out of shell, the bike suffered a mechanical failure ending my race. This was a disappointing weekend for me as no points
scored and I felt that we would have achieved a good result.
Donington Park 23rd – 25th May 2009
Qualified: 8th. Race: 8th
Race Result: Donington was a two part race, after a good start and pushing hard. I managed to take the race lead
only for it to start raining. This resulted in the race being red flagged and re run with wets. It was a drying track and I had a lack of confidence
in my rear wet tyre so after the restart, I gradually slipped back down the field to finish in a disappointing 8th place.
Thruxton 29th – 31st May 2009
Qualified: 9th. Race: 3rd
Race Result: In qualifying one I suffered a huge high side which left me requiring treatment both trackside and
at the medical centre. This was very frustrating as I was on pole when I crashed. I managed to hold on to this for the Q1 session but in Q2 I
slowly slipped back to 9th place.
On race day I felt very battered and bruised, I didn’t achieve the start that I was hoping for and was in 25th
place on lap 1. I battled hard through the race and was in 4th position when there was a last lap, last corner drama which meant I moved into 3rd
place and achieved my first podium of the season and also the fastest lap. A fantastic result for what was a difficult weekend.
Snetterton 19th – 21st June 2009
Qualified: 11th. Race: 1st
Race Result: This was a great weekend for me, as I managed to get on the top step of the podium. On the first lap
I was running in 13th place, I managed to pick up the race pace and catch up with the front runners. I eventually managed to move into 1st place
after overtaking James Lodge, he then retook the lead and after a few laps of very close racing I manage to retake the lead and hold it to the
chequered flag. My 1st race win of the season.
Knockhill 3rd – 5th July 2009
Qualified: 8th. Race: 12th
Race Result: Qualifying didn’t go to plan as I had a mechanical problem which meant I didn’t have much track time. Warm up was
disastrous as I crashed heavily, causing the session to be red flagged. I was treated trackside then taken to the medical centre, where I received
treatment for a arm injury. I had to return to the medical centre later to undertake a fitness test so see if I could race. Luckily I passed.
The race was difficult due to my injury and I just wanted to get some points, I ran in 17th place for most of the race, I was able to gradually
move through the field and crossed the line in 12th place. A disappointing weekend but happy to get some points.
Mallory 17th – 19th July 2009
Qualified: 9th. Race: DNF
Race Result: Free practice and qualifying had gone really well. I was still struggling with the injury that I received at Knockhill.
At the circuit I was able to receive some regular physiotherapy on my arm.
Mallory Park is my least favourite circuit that we race at, so to qualify 9th place, I was fairly happy.
Race day and we were not sure which was the weather would go, as rain had been forecast. It was still dry as we lined up on the grid, I had a really
good start and tucked into 8th place on the first lap. On lap 3 I managed to pass Brian Clark into 7th place and set about chasing the pack in front.
I gradually move onto the back of the pack and was ready to line up a move on Robbie Stewart when disaster struck at the Hairpin on Lap 13, for some
reason I lost the back end. Not sure what happened or if there was something on the track, I managed to re join the race but my brake level was
damaged so I had to retire.
I was really disappointed as felt we had a good, fast race pace.
I now go to Donington to compete in motogp 125 race as a wild card.
Brands 7th – 9th August 2009
Qualified: 11th. Race: 8th
Race Result: I arrived at Brands still feeling confident from my motogp result. I was looking forward to riding the full gp circuit.
Friday practice went reasonably well, I had a small off into the gravel but managed to get back on and finished in 17th place. I knew that I had a lot of work to do in qualifying.
Qualifying day was sunny and warm, the pace was very quick and I knew that it was going to be close. I managed to get several laps in but didn’t seem to be moving up the grid. I finally managed to get a reasonable lap which put me on the 3rd row and 11th place.
Race day was another warm day, I had lots of friends cheering me on and some had travelled over from Ireland. Warm up I was 6th quickest which gave me confidence. I knew the race was going to be tough. I had another cracking Paul Jordan start and on the first lap was 24th.
I managed to pass several riders and move up through the field and found myself in a group of four battling for 8th , which caused me to me loose touch with the front group.
Coming over the line for the last lap, I was running in 10th, I moved up into 9th place coming into paddock hill and then managed to catch and over take Matt Hoyle – last years champion to cross the line in 8th.
It had been a tough weekend. I’m off to get some practice starts before we go to Cadwell
Cadwell Park 29th – 31st August 2009
Qualified: 11th. Race: 8th
Race Result: Saturday practice went reasonably well, we did have a few technical problems with the bike, which once again lost me valuable track time.
Qualifying day started sunny and warm, first session I managed to qualify in 11th place which I was happy with. I still didn’t feel comfortable with the bike. 2nd qualifying I only managed a few laps before the rain came down so ending any chance of improving on my qualifying time.
Race day was sunny but windy. Once again I had a lot of support from friends and family. I knew I had to get a good race start. On the first lap I was running in 13th place but was struggling to keep with the bikes in front as I had mechanical problems again.
The red flag came out after 4 laps and I was able to have my bike worked on during the stoppage time. It was an 8 lap dash to the flag. I managed a better start and my bike felt good. I was able to keep with the riders in front and gradually overtake and move up.
I was running in 9th place when 2 riders in front both lost their chains on the mountain part of the circuit. I managed to overtake Tim Hastings on the last lap to gain 6th place and am now in joint 4th place overall in the Championship.
Next round is Croft, which should be exciting as my brother is hoping to compete as a wild card on my 125 bike I rode in Ireland championship. We have not raced together for about 16 months..... Watch this space!
Croft 9th – 11st September 2009
Qualified: 16th. Race: 10th
Race Result:Friday free practice went quite well, I was 10th in the first practice and dropped down to 13th in 2nd practice. Hopefully we can get higher up in qualifying tomorrow.
Qualifying 1 was a disaster, I was in 20th place. I was having problems going into the corners. I came into the pits several times but it wasn’t until later we discovered the tyre pressure in the rear was incorrect. I knew I had another chance in Q2.
I went out for my 2nd session and the bike felt really good. I was straight on the pace and up to 12th place. On lap 3, I was on a flying lap when a slower rider seeing a blue flag decided to move onto instead of away from the racing line.
This caused me to run into the back of his bike and for me to crash. My bike was extensively damaged, ending my qualifying session. I managed to hold onto 15th place. Thanks to everyone who worked late to ensure my bike would be ready for race day.
Race day, went out for warm up and needed a good session to test the bike after the repairs, sadly that didn’t happen as I was taken out by another rider who lost control behind me causing them to crash into me. We went into the race not knowing how the bike would be.
It was an incident packed race, with several of the front runners crashing. I had a good start. I rode the best I could and had several battles but only managed to come home in 10th place. It had not been the best weekend for me. I am now in 6th place in the championship. I would just like to wish my good friend Robbie Stewart a speedy recovery after his accident.
