Kettering Lib Dem Youth & Students Hold Inaugural Meeting

27th December 2001

Kettering Lib Dem Youth & Students, the latest branch of the completely autonomous youth wing of the Liberal Democrats, held its inaugural meeting on Sunday 23rd December 2001.

The newly elected Chair of the branch, the 15 year-old instigator of the branch, Christopher Nelson, made this address at the meeting:

"This is a special occasion for the young in Kettering because at last we have an organisation willing to fight for the voice of the youth in Kettering, and an organisation through which young people can demonstrate their strong feeling on such issues as the high cost of public transport and university tuition fees.

"Kettering LDYS will welcome the views of all young people under 26, and will work to ensure that the views of those of the younger generation will not be disadvantaged by their lack of experience in expressing them to those who hold the strings of power."

Anyone wishing to learn more about Kettering LDYS or its plans for the future should contact Christopher Nelson direct on (01536) 502970 or visit the website of the organisation at http://www.ketteringldys.cjb.net/.
