Welcome to the School!

This is where you can find out about my school visits.

I am available for school visits to schools within the East Midlands region
and am happy to tailor sessions to a school's individual requirements.

Typical school sessions range from simple readings and Q & A sessions with reception classes to more technical “How a book is made” sessions with Year 6. I also do a couple of audience participation sessions, which are suitable for assemblies and larger groups.

School visits are charged at the current Society of Authors
recommended minimum rates plus VAT and travel expenses*.

For some good general advice about setting up an author's visit, check out this article at the Publishers Association web site. Please note that the article was written in 2000, so the Society of Authors' rates quoted are out of date.

The Book Trust have produced an excellent Resource Guide for the planning a Book Week which can be downloaded in PDF format using this link.

This section on "Arranging an Author's Visit"
on the Puffin web site may also be useful.

For some cautionary tales illustrating how NOT to organise an author's visit, check out this article on Diana Wynne Jones's web site.

* Typically travel expenses are simply the cost of train and taxi fare (if any) if travelling
by train, while car expenses are calculated at 75% of current local authority mileage rates.
