Sunday 8 July 2007

The results of the common bird census for 2006 have been provided by Liz Parsons of Starling Learning.

This indicates that 30 different species of bird was recorded as breeding within the Millichen area. Of

particular interest to the Group are the following totals for those birds specifically targetted by our winter

feeding programme: 13 pairs of Tree Sparrow (4 pairs more than 2005); 15-16 pairs of Yellowhammer

(compared to 10-12 pairs in 2005); and 6 pairs of Reed Bunting (same as 2005).

Just to remind you all, when we started in 2001 there were thought to be only 1-3 pairs of Tree Sparrow left

at Millichen. So a big thank you to everyone that has helped over the past 6 years.
