This Month's Report

Activity Tables: Before I get into the report proper I would once again draw attention to the Reports and Remarks section at the bottom of the Activity Tables. These sections contain information on some of the activity recorded and should be read in conjunction with the Monthly report.

10m: With the lack of interest in 10m in the recent past I have devoted most of my two interface channels to 20m and 30m this month. When I have been QRV on 10m I only heard the Packet station TA2BBS-8. When I get round to putting together the parts I have to hand for another interface I will also be QRV on 10m. Probably on 28.140Mhz USB 300bd.

20m: DX conditions on 20m have been very variable this month what with an increase in SSN and solar storms. When conditions have been good there have been some interesting contacts and stations heard in 5 continents, probably for the first time on APRS. Several /MM stations have been on the maps and some are to be seen in the 20m Day Maps above.

30m: I have been active on 30m again during the month. Nothing heard outside Europe here but Carl, K1CKK, has provided some interesting maps that may be seen in the 30m Day Maps above.

IGates and Vanishing Stations: Following on from this subject last month, the advice I received was that there is no way to stop IGates from processing APRS frames transmitted via RF from being gated onto the internet. So if there is no way to stop frames being IGated what were the prospects of stopping them creating problems for receiving stations. Having already explored the facilities in UI-View, that exacerbated the problem in some respects, I approached Andrei, UZ7HO, as to whether his Soundmodem could have a facility to block IGated traffic. In a short while Andrei came up with v44 that has two filters, one to block frames by type and another by callsign. Personally I have blocked the alias of a 30m station that crossbands 2m 1200bd stations onto 30m, although the station itself passes, and the following types, that I feel serve no purpose for me personally and to digi them just adds to the clutter on the band:-

Indent......... Data Type.....................ASCII Code
; ................. Object .............................59
< .................Station Capabilities ...........60
> .................Status .............................62
T .................Telemetry Data .................84
} ..................Third-party (IGates) .........125

Net14 Yahoo Group: The membership is staticat 63 having lost a couple of members during the month. If you are not already a member and wish to join the group clicks here and then enter net14_aprs in the search box and follow the instructions.

Conditions Predictor: The Conditions Predictor has been up dated to May 2012, With the SSN increasing from 72 to 73. If you choose your band and time there are some indications for good DX on 10m, 20m and 30m in April, solar flares permitting.

DXCC Tables: You will note that buttons marked DXCC Tbl have been introduced above. These tables are to give an indication of DXCC listed countries heard over the period of the year. MM stations are not generally included because of the difficulty in defining territorial waters. It is not connected with any award scheme.

Andy, F6EWX Reports: This is my bilan on Net14 for April. On my side it is the best month for 2012. I was on the Net only 13 days with only 2 or 3 hours by day. The total number of stations is 52 with 33 Wkd + 19 Hrd only. The data base 2012 is now a total of 86 stations (16 new for this month). About the Dxcc: 19 Dxcc country in April.
