Hotel Platja
D`or
Alcudia, Majorca
Majorca
is the largest island of the Balearic chain and is a Jewel
in the heart of the Mediterranean, it boasts of long sandy
beaches and tiny unspoilt pine clad coves, which are scenic
and
ideal for swimming and snorkeling. The island offers gentle walks
through tiny mountain villages and is renowned for it`s beautifully
crafted artificial pearls and and high quality leather
merchandise.
My wife and I have had many holidays in Majorca, we are attracted by
the Islands beautiful beaches, the hours of sunshine, its
excellent location and the air travel time of only 2hours 15 minutes
from most UK airports.
We have enjoyed holidays in the South and the West of the island but
our favorite location is in the North of the island. Years ago by
chance we located the Hotel Platja D`or which is positioned
on Alcudia`s beautiful sandy beach 1km from Alcudia center. this
location is ideal for our needs and we have now
visited the
Hotel Platja D`or, 9 times during the last 20 years.
The Hotel (photographed with pool) has 244 guest rooms it is in located
in a secluded position surrounded by spacious Mediterranean style
gardens and sun terraces, it is separated from the beach by
rows of trees, which on hot days provide welcome shade from the sun.
The reception staff are friendly, efficient and always ready
to help, Andrue who is senior, will always stop and chat despite his
constant work load.

When we first visited this hotel it was a Thomson Sun, at first this
was to our liking but as we got older it seemed to
get a bit out dated, so we changed the direction of our holidays. We
returned to the Hotel in 2006 and found it had
undergone a complete refurbishment, it had changed to
"all
inclusive" and children under 16 years was excluded. "Well"
this formula worked for us, we returned to the hotel again this year(
2007) and enjoyed our stay very much. The great thing about this hotel
is the friendliness which we believe start with the
staff, at the Platja D`or it is not long before you get to know other guests
and over the years we have made some great friendships. We
recall, David & Esme from Gorseinon, Brenda from Bargoed,
Morgan from Blackwood, Len & Sue from Cornwall and our special
friends for many years Vivian & Peter from
Ditchingham.

We met Viv & Peter in 1991.and again the following year
when Peter jumped on me because I failed to reconise
him, it
was some years
later when by coincidence we meet up again on a beach in Corfu
.We are
now great friends and for the past 2 years have spent some of
our
holidays together by arrangement at the Platja D`or, we now look
forward
to spending time together in 2008, likely at the Platja or
maybe
on a Cruise.
The rooms in the Hotel are very clean and they are a joy to go back to
after a day out, the dinning room is attractive, well laid out and it is
a pleasure to take meals there. The food is appetising, varied
and plentiful, the deserts are just fantastic and you cannot fail to find dishes to enjoy. I have
to say that anyone who is picky and can`t enjoy the food here is just
not hungry. The theatre is a new construction close to the bar, it is
well equipped with comfortable furniture and boasts state of the
art stage lighting and sound. The professional shows are very
good and enjoyable, but it would be difficult to fault these after sampling
the many drinks available from the bar.

For us, this Hotel is just perfect for that well needed relaxing holiday.
