Welcome to our site

We're a Glasgow based band called "Sound of Islay" after the channel running between the islands of Islay and Jura, part of the Inner Hebrides. We play mainly traditional Scottish and Irish Ceilidh tunes at concerts, weddings and parties. We are also experienced function DJs and offer this service as part of our package, giving you the 'best of both worlds' - Ceilidh and Disco.

We are a 3 piece band with accordian, fiddle and drums as our main line-up with occasional swaps to other instruments including guitar, whistle or pedal steel.

The band consists of Iain Prentice on accordian, Izzy MacLachlan on drums and other instruments and Adam Nash on fiddle. Izzy and Iain are also experienced DJs and carry a huge selection of music for our disco. We have recently invested in a lighting rig as the ceilidh/disco nights are becoming so popular - so now you can have the best of both worlds for one price!

The Sound of Islay has been together since 1998. Each of us has strong connections with Scottish music and has been playing 'on the circuit' for almost as long as we can remember - not just in ceilidh bands but in a real diversity of musical styles.

We recently had the honour of playing at a St. Andrew's night run by the St. Andrew's society in the Algarve, Portugal. You can see some pictures of the band (and very good dancers) in action. Thre is also a short video clip on the demos page.

We all have an interest in traditional music and are planning some crossovers with other styles of music. We'll let you know when it happens!

How to Book the Band

Email us or phone on 07779 456131 and tell us the following:

• Type of function e.g Wedding, Anniversary, Dance, etc
• Contact details and phone no.
• Date and Venue
• Approx. start and finish times
• If you require a dj and disco set-up - what type of music (most people go for 'various' as it covers 60's to 90's music for the widest variety of people - as experienced djs we can put together a set based on your requirements.

We will email back with a quote. If you wish to book us, we require a 30% deposit which is fully refundable up to 8 weeks before the function unless otherwise stated or agreed.

On the night of the function, we will generally take payment before commencement of the music.
