Sir Knight John Heriott WM
(1862 - 1896)

Sir Knight John Heriott was a member of Maiden City RBP No. 113 but in 1893 he transferred and became a founding member and the 1st Worshipful Master of RBP 237.
On the evening of 7th Dec. 1896 Sir Knt. Heriott W.M. attended this his last 'Black' meeting, he died on the 21st Dec. 1896 at a young age (34) whilst holding the Office as WM. The Preceptory paid £2-12-00 for funeral expenses. It was decided by the Sir Knights of 237 to erect this fitting memorial to a much loved Brother Black Knight the cost of the headstone to be laid on the grave was £1-0-0.
Sir Knight Heriott was buried within the grounds of Glendermott Church of Ireland Graveyard and as you can see his Tomb Stone is very unusual in the fact that it has been manufactured from metal.
