4th August 2005

With two bangs of his gavel and a cheery, “Hope you are all well”, our Chairman opened the meeting.  One wit quipped, “Well we awoke again!” It looked like it was going to be one of those meetings.

Our Chairman explained that our guest speaker Mr. Beaufoy was unable to attend our meeting but a colleague from the Driving Standards Agency; Mrs. Dawn Rhodes had stepped into the breach and would be giving the talk “Arrive Alive” after our coffee break. Following the usual apologies for absence and the introduction of our newest member, our Secretary read the minutes of the last meeting – our ladies day meeting, which by all accounts had proved to be a great success.  A number of Ladies commented on how much they had enjoyed the meeting and Gwyn read out a letter he had received from a Mrs. Davidson thanking all at the club for a most enjoyable morning.  Our Chairman once again thanked those concerned in organizing the successful meeting and also those who had so generously donated the many raffle prizes.

Following the coffee break we listened to the talk given by Mrs. Rhodes. Armed with a laptop computer and a digital projector we witnessed many of the common mistakes made by drivers on the roads today. We also learnt something about the present day driving test which now involved a theory test as well as a practical test. Following the talk Mrs Rhodes made available a number of copies of The Highway Code which were eagerly snapped up.

Brian Jones gave a vote of thanks that was warmly applauded.

With time fast running out our Chairman just had time to remind all that our next meeting would be on the 18th August when Mr J Mottram would give a talk entitled, Kinder Mountain Rescue, and to wish everyone a safe journey home.
