I received a very disturbing account of a live Derek Acorah show from forum member, Rozze, which should concern believers and sceptics alike. She writes:

I was a big fan of Derek Acorah, and early in 2004 I booked to see him when he appeared in Folkestone in February 2005.

In July 2004 my nephew committed suicide, and as I was grieving badly, I wrote to him about it, asking for healing for my sister. I can't remember the details, and I don't have a copy, but I know that I said my nephew had committed suicide and he was young.  I told him my sister was devastated and needed the healing, but I can’t remember if I told him how my nephew died.

I don’t usually give out information if I am seeing a medium, but I wasn't in my usual state of mind at the time. There was a big report in the local newspaper though, which gave a lot of details including his age.

In September of last year (2004) Rozze was persuaded to take a look at another sceptical forum, of which I was an administrator, where she says she learned a lot about Acorah's activities.

I was in PM contact with Rozze, and she told me all about her letter to Acorah, adding that her belief in him was wavering, but she still hoped she would get a genuine message from her nephew. Naturally I hoped she would, although I was doubtful.

As the date approached, Rozze says she went onto Acorah's forum and wrote in big,, excited letters that she would be seeing him on Saturday in Folkestone, and really hoped he would give her a message from her nephew who committed suicide. She also mentioned that she is from Canterbury, so didn’t have far to go.

Rozze says she booked the tickets from the theatre, in her own name, by credit card, and the tickets were posted to her home address.

She writes,

My seat was at the end of a row. During the first half of the show, Acorah came down off of the stage, saying he had a young man with him who took his own life, and he was getting a car and carbon monoxide poisoning.

He came directly to me and said 'It's in this area'.

Before I could put my hand up, he said 'I can see him. He's very dark.'

Because I have very dark hair and am quite dark skinned, but my nephew was blonde, I hesitated. Then a woman three rows behind me piped up, saying it was her nephew.

Acorah looked perplexed and said 'Oh no, I've got two of them here. Sam, can you separate them?'  He went and spoke to the woman behind me, but I was so surprised I cannot remember what was said to her.

Then he walked backwards towards me, and said, 'No, no, no - it's definitely here. Is it you?' and he looked at me.

I said 'Yes, it is.' Acorah then said he knew it was and he would come back to me later.

He then went back up on stage and said to me, 'It's time for the interval, but I will speak to you when I come back, as it's important to this boy to say something. '

After the interval, Acorah came back on stage, and started talking to me again. He said that he had been 'talking' to the young man during the interval, and said that he wasn't a good speaker but was being helped by Sam. He then asked if there were drugs or alcohol associated with him.

Rozze then describes the bizarre conversation between her and Acorah.

Rozze could not believe that Acorah insisted that her nephew died in hospital, despite her corrections.

I said "Not drugs".

He said, "I get the feeling he died in hospital."

I replied "No, he died at the scene."

He then said, "Yes, yes, in the hospital. "

Again I said "No, he died at the scene."

He had NO injuries, only black around his mouth and nose.   He then went on about him having head and leg injuries, and said he had been out of control, but was now with a Sister of Mercy. All the time he was talking as if he had been in a car crash.
Rozze had provided information about 'her nephew' both in her letter to Acorah, and posted on his official forum.   He asked it I was his aunt, and I said I was. Then he asked if the month of January was important. I told him my nephew's birthday was in January.
Rozze was particularly upset by this, as her nephew had tried to kill himself four times before.  She had taken some comfort from the knowledge that at last he was really at rest.  That sense of comfort was destroyed by Acorah.   He then said that my nephew had stayed around for two weeks after his death, and had said he didn't want to go.
He had no connection with any sunshine isle.  Rozze believes that Acorah guessed at that as she has a Mediterranean appearance.

Acorah kept going on about a sunshine isle - Greece or Cyprus.

He had no connection with anyone named Paul.   He asked who Paul was
All his belongings had been cleared out of his room, and put in the loft some time earlier.

He would never have worn a tracksuit, and didn’t possess one.

He also said that 'the young man' was really happy that his room had been left just as it was, but talked about his tracksuit being moved out of his room.

There was no connection with a German Shepherd dog.   There was also mention of a German shepherd dog - at which point my partner grabbed the microphone and started agreeing about the dog, then realised he was thinking of a Rottweiler!!

Once again, Rozze had provided the information that her sister was devastated and needed healing.

. At the end of the reading Acorah said the Sister of Mercy was allowing Rozze’s nephew to go home with her for two hours after the show and make himself known to his mother. He said that she had had bad dreams about her son soon after his death, but he hadn't intended that.

Rozze is convinced that had Acorah really been in contact with her nephew he would have mentioned at least one of the following:-

  • He was a twin

  • His girlfriend had hanged herself a few months before his suicide, and he never got over it.

  • He had made four previous attempts at suicide.

  • He had previously broken his back.

  • His other brother (not the twin) was about to become a dad, and he was so looking forward to being an uncle for the first time.

  • His mother was the one who went out to look for him, because the police weren't interested. When she found him she tried to give him the kiss of life. He would have said sorry for putting her through that.

After this article was first published on another website, Rozze was subjected to hate mail from members of the Acorah forum, despite my plea that she not be criticised for having the courage to speak out over such a devastating experience.  Those who tried to put her side in support of her were immediately banned.  So much for 'love and light' being shown by some of Acorah's fans.
