NIGHT THREE |

"... and the glass moved on its own
when I had my finger on it"

"Derek, you don't know where it is ..."
The final night of the Brixham Most Haunted Live
commenced with what may be described by some as a lie, but let's be
generous and assume that Julian Clegg's script had not been amended,
and he genuinely did not know that Acorah had been told the night's
location eight hours earlier by Dr David Bull... |

BERRY POMEROY CASTLE |
It is very well documented that
Ralph de Pomeroy was given the land in 1066 by William the Conqueror.
The castle was begun in the late
13th century, by Henry de Pomeroy, replacing Ralph's scarped and
palisaded shell-keep, and completed by 1305.
In 1548 the castle was sold to Sir
Edward Seymour who built the Tudor mansion house within the castle.
Ralph de Pomeroy knew
neither building.

|
The scene
was set outside the castle when Yvette described how Karl and Stu had
just chased a woman only for her to disappear into thin air.
Of course she wasn't caught on camera ....
Once inside
the ruins, Yvette's breathing became heavy and noisy, and she said she
felt unwell. As if on cue, the team members in turn reported feeling
dizzy, sick, and general unease.

Acorah
sensed the presence of a man spirit, named Ralph. Like most of
the man spirits encountered this weekend, this one was angry, and
didn't want the team there. Acorah then warned the team,
"If you get
a brush past yourself or anything, I feel it's because of the energies
of this man."
Precisely
eighteen seconds later, Yvette felt something touch her leg.
Despite Ciaran saying he thought it was his coat, her breathing became
noisier and heavier, forcing her to sit down at the
conveniently-placed Ouija board, when she reported feeling a little
better..
|
|
|
|
Once the
glass was moving, Yvette managed to gasp some questions:
"Do I look
like somebody you used to know?" - 'Yes' says the glass
"Someone you
once loved?" - 'Goodbye' erm... 'Yes' says the glass, as
it nudged slightly to one side.
Her next
question was interrupted by Acorah becoming 'possessed' by 'Thomas',
who had 'come home'. He claimed his lover had been slaughtered
by 'Henry', and he wanted to kill Henry.
Acorah
eventually succumbed and had to be carried out by Andy ... once again
... where he quickly recovered. |
Miraculously
Acorah's 'possession' provided a cure for whatever was
ailing Yvette, but unfortunately it was only temporary, and his absence from the room caused the noisy
breathing to overcome her once more..

GATEHOUSE |
|
|
|
Taking their
Ouija board with them, the team moved to the gatehouse, and
re-established contact with 'Thomas', who indicated that there was a
lady with him, whose name began with 'W', and it was she who was
making Yvette feel ill.
Later,
Acorah explained that Thomas and his lover had both been murdered by
Henry and A.N.Other, because one of them was from a lower class. |
|
|
|
Andy was
having a busy night, because now it was Yvette's turn to collapse and
be removed from the table. Cut to adverts.
Eventually
it was announced that Yvette had recovered from what she described as
a faint. Naturally, the incident brought on a text-in viewers'
vote to decide whether it was paranormal or not (50p + normal
charges). Cut to adverts.

DUNGEON 1
|
According to local historians, the
bells were those of Berry Pomeroy Church, just a mile away, chiming
the hour.
At last! Acorah has placed the spirit of Margaret, starved to death
whilst incarcerated in the dungeons by her jealous sister, in the
right place!
But has he? Surely he must have it right this time? Oh dear me, Sam
has let him down again because he's in the wrong dungeons! Lady
Margaret's Tower is named after her because that's where she died,
but the team have yet to visit it! In any case, her ghost is
seen on the castle ramparts!
Not only that, but he's around three hundred years out in the date.
By 1564 the Seymours were well-settled into the castle.
Still, it's a lot closer than Lupton House where he placed her two
nights earlier!
|
|
The team had
moved to a dungeon, where Acorah sensed a female spirit who was upset,
at which point it was John's turn to be removed from the room by Andy,
and yet another cut to adverts.
Once back
with the crew we are told that they are in Dungeon one, and they could hear
distant bells, which weren't heard outside.
Returning
to his theme, Acorah gets a lonely young woman who's miserable and
angry at being incarcerated there, and she's revengeful. She's
looking for a person who hurt her deeply.
"It's
another female!. The other woman was responsible for getting
her out the way, getting her down here, out of sight.
"Margaret
is the one who comes here, and she's got hatred still in her heart
for her sister.
"She was
starved. She was put here because her sister took her love,
took her man, and she knows that her sister is evil."
According to
Sam, Margaret died in 1564 (give or take a couple of years).
Ciaran then
interrupted, saying he found the information fascinating, as Acorah
had come up with a similar lady starving in Lupton House. Could
he provide surnames for these ladies ??
Acorah asked
Sam if he could help, but sadly Sam only had as much information as
Acorah, but it was repeated nevertheless, just to make sure he had the
right Margaret .... |

DUNGEON 2 |
|
One possible explanation for the
television is that it was switched by a second remote control to the
AV channel, but connected to a linein cable which supplied the noise
.
Answers on a postcard, please!
|
|
In the next
dungeon the whole crew was feeling ill, especially
Stuart who was complaining of a headache.
A new
experiment with white noise on a television was introduced. The object
was to ask a spirit to turn it off. Yvette repeated asked
for any spirit present to turn off the bright, white light, and a
spirit appeared to oblige by turning the screen off, but not the
sound, to the amazement of all.
Acorah then
sensed that a man had entered, who said that Ralph was there, and
Ralph was annoyed at the team being there.
Yvette
renewed her repeated calls for Margaret or Ralph to turn the bright,
white light on again, to no avail. But the situation was saved
by Stuart's attack on Karl, Derek and Andy when they tried to help
him. The transmission was cut.
|
|
|
|
After the
adverts Stu said he was dazed and confused and didn't remember
anything about it, and Ciaran thought it sounded like an alleged
possession.... Derek knew that Ralph was going to attack
someone, because he was angry and manevolent (sic.) but not who.
Confused? You will be ... |
|
|
|
In yet
another séance Yvette, followed by the other team members, called on
the spirits to blow the candle out, but they weren't playing. Acorah
felt they were joined by the spirit of Charles Seymour - a benevolent
spirit, for once. Their lack of success prompted them to move to
the final location of the night, which was also the first. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Once outside, Acorah felt a young woman following
them - a Mistress Seymour; a good soul - and when asked for a date,
Sam gives 1592. With a note of incredulity in his voice Acorah
adds that spirits may be seen there in daylight - yet another
well-documented fact.
|
|
|
|
THE EAST
WING Time for the
grand finale, the piece de resistance - an experiment in
physical mediumship.
With
Acorah's arms and legs strapped securely to an upright chair, Ciaran explained that the
experiment was intended to produce materialisation, ectoplasm,
levitation or any other physical manifestation. He also
explained that he didn't really expect anything to happen. He
was right.
|
|
The ghost associated with the East Wing
is not that of the murdering mother, who is seen to roam the castle.
The East Wing's ghost is reported to
be a
young girl named Isabelle, who
terrifies all who see her and follows visitors when they leave.
|
|
There was no
materialisation, no ectoplasm, no levitation, and no other physical
manifestation, just another of Acorah's 'possessions', this time of a
tear-free, weeping woman who allegedly strangled her baby on the orders
of her father, 'the baron', who was also the baby's father.
"My father has made me do this.
He's made me kill my baby."
Not
surprisingly, no name for the woman or her father was forthcoming from
either Acorah or the Ouija board to identify this woman or her father.
The experiment was obviously intended to be the big climax to the
three nights, but personally I found it an embarrassment.
And so we
said farewell to Brixham, and what was probably the most
financially-successful Most Haunted Live that Living have broadcast,
so who cares if the ghosts had wandered into the wrong building, or even the
wrong century? Funnily enough, I, and thousands of others do.. |

Acknowledgements
I would like to thank everyone who helped me research Brixham and its
history. Special mention must be made to:
the Bad Psychics' members
especially the Devonian branch! |
|
The only member of the team that appeared
unaffected
during the weekend was Ciaran.
Does this mean that scientists are less susceptible
to the paranormal, or simply less suggestible ?
