A short
biography
Although
Allyn has had a life-long interest in the Tarot, he didn't
begin his formal training in the Western Mystery Tradition
until 1980, when, owing to a serious illness, he was forced
to re-evaluate his life and decide what was and wasn't important.
And so began his ongoing fascination with himself, the mysteries
of the Rose Cross, and the Chymical Wedding. He began leading
Tarot workshops in 1984 when he started teaching what he
really needed to learn.
It was also in 1984 that
he was first introduced to Sacred Dance and found in it a catalyst for his
inner work. It soon became apparent that he couldn't hold down a 'straight'
job and dance as much as he wanted to. He led his first Sacred Dance workshop
in 1986 which explored Tarot through dance. It was the forerunner of his
later dance ritual work. It wasn't long before he was trying to earn an honest
crust by teaching three evening groups of dance a week and working as many
weekends as he could leading workshops in either Sacred Dance or Tarot. The
weekends he wasn't working he was off dancing with the teachers he wanted
to dance with. The dance would eventually lead him to continental Europe
to 'collect' dances for himself.
Ritual
Dance
Meanwhile his dance ritual
work developed. He worked with an ongoing group, over several years, marking
the solstices, equinoxes and the cross-quarter days, which led to a very
subtle linking in to the planetary cycle. He has taught his work at the
Glastonbury Festival of Dance, Dance Camps, Adult Education Residential Centres,
and indeed anywhere he's been invited to go. He says his most extravagant
rituals have been with 140 Ecumenical Christians, 150 Transcendental Meditators,
150 people and a lake for a full moon celebration, and 200 people and a very
large Lammas loaf to celebrate Lammas. But all his workshops are special,
irrespective of numbers, and all are marked by a sense of joy, compassion
and spontaneity. He is very good at creating a safe space for people to go
through whatever process they need to.
A parallel
course
In 1987 something happened
which was to set his life on yet an other new, but parallel, course. He hurt
his back dancing. This was sorted out by McTimoney Chiropractic. So beguiled
was he by this healing technique that he eventually manifested enough money
to do the training course himself. He qualified as a McTimoney Chiropractor
in 1990 and now runs a
multi-disciplinary wellness
centre with his life partner Sue, and eight other therapists. They
went to America in 1998 to train in
Spinal Touch and are
now European tutors in this amazing technique.
A new
turn
His passion
for explaining things has recently manifest as a writer.
Allyn writes a quarterly newsletter for the international
spinal touch community, a free monthly
wellness newsletter and a monthly magazine column on
Alternative Health.
He is a multi-faceted
man, and consequently very difficult to describe. When pinned
down for a label, he says that he describes himself as a
guerrilla ontologist.
Allyn is now looking
for work in your area. If you would like to organise a workshop for him,
or just want more information, contact him at the address above.
