Icon Harad

“They are fierce. They have black eyes, and long black hair, and gold rings in their ears; yes, lots of beautiful gold. And some have red paint on their cheeks, and red cloaks; and their flags are red, and the tips of their spears; and they have round shields, yellow and black with big spikes.” (Lord of the Rings Book IV Chapter 3).

The Haradrim come from the deserts south of Mordor and Gondor, and from the old Númenorean naval stronghold of Umbar. They have great naval strength, and their armies contain Mûmakil, great mammoths, which they use as mobile forts.

Harad and Gondor have fought on and off throughout the Third Age. In TA 1448 some rebels from Gondor seized Umbar and joined with the Haradrim, becoming the feared Corsairs, pirates who raided regularly along the coasts of Gondor and further North.
