Icon Easterlings

“... and the enemy had not left their homes undefended; their youths and old men were aided by the younger women, who in that people were also trained in arms and fought fiercely in defence of their homes and their children.” (Unfinished Tales Part III, Chapter 2 (i)).

The Easterlings represent the numerous nomadic Men of the East, who live in mobile towns of carts. They rely considerably on horses, and usually have many chariots in their armies.

Following the depopulation of the lands of Rhovanion between Mirkwood and Rhûn, the Wainriders of the East have been able to reach Gondor, Rohan, Lórien, and the Dwarf-kingdoms to the North, although they have been recovering after the loss of the battle of the Field of Celebrant in TA 2510.
