Call Minder

Call Minder is a BT service that allows you to retrieve voice messages by entering 1571 into your handset.   It sends a pulse signal which disrupts the normal dial-tone.

To resolve this, untick "Wait for a dial tone" in the dialing properties of the connectoid.

Call Waiting

Call Waiting can disrupt normal Internet activity and more than likely, the end user will be disconnected.

The following codes can be entered into their handset to check status of and enable/disable Call Waiting:

  • *43# - Enable Call Waiting
  • #43# - Disable Call Waiting
  • *#43# - Check Status of Call Waiting

Can't set IE homepage

When attempting to open Internet Options via Internet Explorer, the following message is received:

"Restrictions.   This operation has beec cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer.   Please contact your system administrator."

This problem is usually caused by a setting in Spybot that locks the Internet Explorer control panel to prevent changes from being made to your browser by adware.

To resolve:

  1. Open SpyBot - Search and Destroy
  2. Click Tools > IE Tweaks
  3. Uncheck the following:
    • "Lock IE start page setting against user changes"
    • "Lock IE control panel against opening from within"
  4. Run full scan of system with SpyBot

Comms Refresh (98/ME)

IMPORTANT

If the end user has ZoneAlarm installed, have them go into ZoneAlarm Control Center > Program Control and allow full access to everything listed.   Then fully uninstall it.

Also ensure they have their Windows 98/Windows ME Installation CD-ROM as this will be helpful to locate the cab files needed for the Comms Refresh.

Remove Comms as normal but do not reboot.
Go to Start > Run > regedit and remove the following keys:

Windows 98

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\RemoteAccess

Windows ME

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\RemoteAccess
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock2

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VXD\AFVXD
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VXD\DHCP
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VXD\MSTCP
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VXD\Winsock
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VXD\Winsock2

At this point, reboot the system and reinstall Comms.
