N.H.I.A. Fixed Coche 2007

The  second Fixed Coche competition was held at the N.H.I.A, on Saturday the 6th of October.  With most of the seasons competitive games over, it was an enjoyable way to finish playing Pétanque for the majority of players.  It was a relaxed atmosphere with games running smoothly and the weather stayed dry with the sun making a brief appearance, but more importantly no rain.  It was good to hear a lot of banter going on, whilst trying to engage the brain in playing to the new rules of Fixed Coche.
A big thanks to all the teams who entered, particularly all the new comers to the sport, and those who travelled from far afield, from Leamington Spa, Milton Keynes, Woburn and Enfield.

Eighteen teams competed in three leagues of six, which meant each team played five games.  The winners from each group and the best second runner-up overall, went on to play in semi-finals & finals. In the semi-finals Con Crusaders (Adrian, Myra, Rob),  deservedly beat Triple Espresso (Paolo, Sue, Peter),  whilst  Luton (Alan, Ian, Mike), made a good come back to beat Listen E.A.R.(Rich, Elaine, Adam) who lead most of the match.

The 3rd/4th place playoff saw Listen E.A.R as clear winners against Triples Espresso, with Adam playing some excellent Pétanque and Paolo not knowing where he was going.  In a tight final, Con Crusaders took 1st place from last year winners, Luton.   Or maybe one member of last year’s winning team Luton, (not mentioning any names – Ian!) was determined to take home a panettone.

Surprisingly, after seven rounds of games, the final was over at 6.15pm.   Unfortunately, one thing that didn’t turn out so well, were the photos taken at the presentation.
