PARRY Family History

Has it been done before?

This is one of the first questions to ask when starting to research your family history. Although it is unlikely that someone will have researched your immediate family without you being aware of it, as you move back to the earlier generations, the possibility increases that someone, somewhere, will have done so.

This page shows my progress in tracking down and examining sources for information concerning research into PARRY families. If you have further details from any of these sources, or knowledge of any other sources containing Parry information, then please let me know.

Published Sources

Four books are recommended by the Society of Genealogists which should all be checked for published accounts of research in England and Wales:
[Both Marshall's and Whitmore's books are available on cdrom from Archive CD Books.]

However, the above resources do not list all published biographical works, and there are several that I know of concerning Parrys, and Parry families. I have detailed them here, and if you are aware of any more then please let me know. Other books, such as County Histories, also include items on Parrys and I will be adding details from those as I find them.

Deposited unpublished material

The question of what happens to your research after you die is one that all genealogists should consider. Do you want your hard work to be destroyed because nobody knows what to do with it? Think about future researchers, perhaps even your own descendants - How often, when hunting in the records for some elusive ancestor, have you thought, "if only they'd left something to show me where they were", or, on finding an entry in an unexpected place, have you asked, "Why? Why there? Why then?"?

But will your descendants be asking the same questions about you?

Take the opportunity to help them by ensuring that your work is preserved, whether it is in some form of "Family Archive", or handed over to one of the Genealogical Societies, such as the Society of Genealogists.

I gather that there is already some work relating to Parry families at the SoG. If anyone can help me by accessing this, or if you are aware of other research which has been deposited elsewhere, then please, let me know, so that I can add the details here, and some information about the researcher to the following section.

Parry researchers in the past

Finding published, or deposited, unpublished, work is one way of examining what research has already been carried out. However, having a record of who has been researching when, and in what areas, might also help to bring to light other items which do not yet fit either of those categories.

These are the people I have come across so far who, in some way, have contributed to our knowledge of Parry families. Some of their work has been published, but for others perhaps it still exists in family archives and private collections. Sadly I imagine that some of it will have been lost. If you know anything of these people, or of what happened to their research, then please let me know. For several of them I have little information on them other than their name, so would be grateful for anything which helps to identify which families they were from.
