The XV edition of the Goya Film Awards took place on the 3rd of February 2001 at the Palacio Municipal de Congresos (Madrid). The new president of the Academy, actress Marisa Paredes, attended the event with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, Pilar del Castillo. The event was directed by Juan Luis Iborra and Yolanda García Serrano and presented by María Barranco, José Coronado, Loles León, Imanol Arias, Concha Velasco and Pablo Carbonell. Achero Mañas' opera prima El Bola (Pellet), was the greatest surprise in the Goya Film Award ceremony. It managed to get 4 awards from its 5 nominations: Best Film, Best New coming Director, Best New coming Actor and Best Original Script. Achero Mañas snatched the awards from the great film-makers Jose Luis Garci and Alex de la Iglesia. Achero got his second and third Goya awards at this ceremony, since he already won the Best Short Film Award in 1997 for Cazadores (Hunters). In the beginning it looked as if the awards were going to go to La Comunidad (Common Wealth) and You're the One, who had 15 and 14 nominations respectively, but in the end they were well spread out. You're the One was the film with most awards this year with 5 Goya statuettes. |
