The Spanish Academy of Art and Cinematographic Sciences (AACC) was created in 1986 with the main object to recompense the industry's efforts to promote Spanish cinema. In pure Hollywood style, prizes are given to the best of the year in each of the 27 categories. The Goya is the Spanish Academy Award. This bronze statuette represents the figure of the famous Spanish painter Francisco de Goya y Lucientes. The first Goya Award Ceremony was held in the Lope de Vega Theatre in Madrid on the 16th of March of 1987. In this first ceremony 15 Goyas were awarded. Up until the year 1999 there were only 3 contenders for each category. The year 2000 ceremony will change this to 4 per category. |
