Question: From now on we will have to say that not only you are a great director of actresses, but also of male actors.... The protagonists from your latest film: Hable Con Ella (Talk to Her) are two men and the actors who play them are splendid. Answer: I accepted that fame of good director of actresses for mere politeness, but it one of many things they say about me... Q: That is why I mention it. A: In any case, Hable Con Ella is not my first film with male protagonists. Carne Tremula (Live Flesh) is a testicular story, and La Ley del Deseo (The Law of Desire) was another one of those stories where men determined the plot of the story... Q: Who do you have more fun with? A: What do you mean? Q: When it comes with work, do you have more fun with male actors or with actresses? A: I enjoy lots with working with both. It is true that I have written more feminine roles then male or neutral. Q: That is obvious... A: I think women inspire more comedies in me, and men tragedies. Q: Why don't you write more comedies? A: Because the scripts just don't come out. But I am going to force them out of me. Q: Can you force a script, the elements that make it up and the tone? A: No, with the exception of documentaries and biographical films. Q: What genre does Hable Con Ella belong to? A: All I know is that it is not a Western or a CIA agents movie. It is not a James Bond or period movie either. Q: It does have a bit of period in it... A: It is true, 7 minutes that take place in 1924. Q: Everybody is talking about them... A: Even though they are mute! Q: Isn't it risky to stop the main story and introduce a very different one, unless it is a flashback from the same characters? A: Very Q: And are you not scared that the public get lost or baffled? A: While I was shooting it I was dead scared.
