Almodóvar kisses his BAFTA. |
BAFTA British Film Academy Awards The Award Ceremony took place in the Odeon cinema in London on the 9th of April. Pedro Almodóvar had 3 Nominations for his internationally acclaimed film All About My Mother: Best Achievement in Direction, Best Screenplay and Best Film in a Language other than English. He was awarded the David Lean Award to the Best Achievement in Direction and the award to the Best Film in a Language other than English . In a very relaxed and surprised manner, Almodóvar delivered a very humble speech when he received the Best Director award from the hands of Faye Dunaway: "Really, I did not expect it, above with such a distinguished company. I'm very moved, so I don't know what to say. Thank you, thank you very much. You know? Let me tell you a story, one minute (looking at his watch). When I was a child I thought that the actors were the people that made the movies so I wanted to be an actor. After the years, when I became an adolescent and I came to Madrid, I discovered that behind the camera, behind everything, there is someone that invents the game, and so I thought, well, this is the place where I want to be. And you give me a prize for that, I'm really really moved. Thank you. And, by the way, thank you to the program for not cutting me of with music ".
Pedro seemed surprised when he got his second award from the hands of Julia Ormond: "You want me to have a heart attack tonight. Anyway, I forgot the other time to dedicate this also to the other four directors that were also nominated, who deserve it more than I. I'm glad today to share this with Pathé UK, United Artists International especially with Fiona Mitchell and Wendy Parker for their support and also, you know, it seems to me like I'm having a honeymoon with the British audience and I'm very happy, very excited and very horny. I hope that this will be a tradition in our relation, thank you so much". He kissed his BAFTA award and thanked the British Film Academy fur such great honour. |
