Colchester Shotokan Karate Club was formed in 1983 and is one of the longest-standing clubs in the area. As our name suggests, the style of karate we practice is called Shotokan, which is the most widely practiced style of karate worldwide. We are affiliated to the Toyakwai Karate Association and the English Karate Federation.

The Club is run by experienced 4th and 3rd Dan instructors.

We are privileged to have regular visits from Sensei ODYSSEAS CHRISTOU [TONE] who is a 6th Dan from the Traditional Shotokan Schools Of Karate, (T.S.S.K.). The knowledge passed on by Sensei Tone is of great benefit not only to our students but is essential in the continued development of our own 4th and 3rd Dan Instructors.

We are a family oriented club, and have many parents and children training alongside each other. We do not run separate classes for adults and children, however the number of instructors and black belts at the club permits training sessions to be split when appropriate. 

We consider the standard of karate we practice to be high, this is evidenced by the track record of our instructors and club members in Black Belt gradings and in competitions.

We are a not-for-profit club, any income received remains within the Club for the benefit of its members, including the provision of subsidised courses with guest Instructors. None of our instructors take any payment from the club, our fees are therefore very reasonable, lessons can be paid for individually or on a monthly basis.

As a family orientated club, we welcome adults and children (from 6 years of age).

• New members are always welcome, as a family orientated club we particularly welcome families.
• Visitors from other EKF affiliated clubs are always welcome to our normal training sessions and our courses.

Congratulations to: Iain & Thomas Sho Dan.

Both Iain & Tom demonstrated their karate skills with a solid grading performance at the T.K.A Dan grading held in Witham on the 11th December 2011.
