Stoke Fleming 2001
For the past 6 years, a weekend in June has seen a group of ringing friends from the Swindon area descending on Stoke Fleming, (3 miles south of Dartmouth) for a long weekend break, staying at the Stoke Lodge Hotel.
This year, Saturday morning saw us visit 3 local towers where ringing ranged from Devon style call changes through to Double Norwich on the 27cwt eight in Totnes.
During Saturday afternoon the annual Stoke Fleming Tennis Championship took place and this year, as usual, it was a fiercely fought contest. For the second year in succession Mrs Howell retained her championship title. However on this occasion she was partnered by Mr Des 'MacEnro' Jones, so named because of his consistent challenging of the umpires decision. Mr Carey and Mrs Sherriff were this years runners up.
The day finished off with drinks and nibbles before a very enjoyable evening meal. We were joined this year by Jan and John Dietz, John having been responsible for arranging all of the local towers for us for the past 3 years.
