Brief background:-

MARSKE MODEL RAILWAYS is run by IAN ARMSTRONG who's interest in railways goes back to travelling on the LMS to Afon Wen from Manchester, then on the GWR to Pwllheli back in 1946.

Continuing with train spotting in the 1950's around Manchester, Stockport, Crewe, Macclesfield (GC&NS Lines), travelling on the Welshpool and Liverpool Overhead railways before they closed even as far south as Dover , as well as Devon & Cornwall in the days of branch line steam as far west as Looe in 1955. Then using a Runabout Ticket from Manchester London Road to Marylebone over Woodhead & down the Great Central Route the day he left school , It was hard not to have train spotted with his school looking down on Tiviot Dale Station, Stockport. One of the rare Locomotives spotted in those days was the Fell Diesel on trials.

In the 1970's to 1980's Ian was involved as a Volunteer on the NYMR and with the running of the Teesside Centre of the Stephenson Locomotive Society, as its Chairman.

Now retired. It is hard to stop a life's interest. Marske Model Railways and a 00 gauge GWR Circa' 1946-48 railway layout helps to keep him young and active.
