ILP Term 1 Autumn 2003

An enquiry into my work context:

Learning Outcomes:
(Things you should achieve by the end of this term)

  1. identify the requirements for someone in your work role - the knowledge and skills they need
  2. identify the main activities of your work context
  3. carry out a personal audit of your knowledge and skills in relationship to the requirements you have identified in learning outcome 1
  4. identify opportunities for your own learning within your work context - this is a workplace degree so make use of any training, meetings, or courses on offer
  5. identify topics that interest you for future research - these can be amended but should project forward over the next 2 years
  6. contribute to an online learning community, and describe how different tools are used in an online environment
  7. negotiate and agree your Individual Learning Plan Learning Activities:

Below are a set of activities you should undertake. Edit the text below (indicated by) to adapt them to your particular circumstances.

Learning Activity 1

Learning Activity 2

Learning Activity 3

I will start by finding out a bit more about the activities of my organisation. What are the different parts and what do they all do. As RNIB is such a large organisation I may confine my research to the outlining the broad activities but concentrate on the areas that I have contact with on a regular basis

Secondly I will find out about any opportunities for learning in my work, thinking about how they could help me with the areas I wish to research further that I have identified in activity 2. The areas I will be looking into include staff appraisal, informal arrangements with colleagues and friends, staff meetings, work shadowing, mentoring programmes, etc.

I’m also going to be working on an ad hoc basis with our fundraising and legacies colleagues, a new experience for me and an area outside my usual activities. I’ll be going to road shows with them and talking about accessible print and other forms of communication for people with sight problems. I hope to learn all about their work and activities while I’m doing this.

Learning Activity 4

I am going to try and use some technology in developing my learning journal. This is a totally new experience for me, but I will try to take some digital photographs that show the different ways in which I work with people. I will then upload them add some comments to them, identifying the points that I think are important.
I’ll also experiment with the short movie feature on my digital camera and use this to record some thoughts and ways of working.

Learning Activity 5

I will look at a selection of issues that I have recorded in my learning journal. In particular, I’ll reflect on some of the outcomes and note any progress made. I’ll also review any issues that might have not worked out as I hoped they would, or that need further research. I can share these with the online community
