Rallings and Thrasher of Plymouth University calculated what the 1992 result would have been if the seats had been fought on the new boundaries. These notional 1992 results are also given here so that the 1997 result can be compared to the 1992 notional result. An explanation of the method used by Rallings and Thrasher can be found in their book The Media Guide to the New Parliamentary Constituencies
Each constituency includes a brief outline of the local government composition of the seat, excluding county councillors and the effect of the 1997 boundary changes. These changes are rated:
Minor less than 5% change to the electorate of the constituency.
Moderate 5% to 25% change to the electorate of constituency.
Major over 25% change to the electorate of constituency.
Students at Leicester University mostly live either in the Harborough constituency which covers Oadby and Wigston or in the Leicester South constituency.
Students at De Montford University mostly live either in the Leicester West or Leicester South constituencies.
