Hello, and welcome to my web pages. The pages are mainly about the weather conditions in the market town of South Normanton, Derbyshire, U.K.

I have a general interest in the weather and have a Vantage Pro 2 Weather Station & Boltek Lightning Sensor. I also receive imaages from the Meteosat-9 (MSG-2) geostationary weather satellite (via Hotbird/Eumetcast) and from the NOAA orbiting satellites via automatic picture transmission (APT). I also enjoy making home made wine & beer (and drinking it!)

South Normanton is located at junction 28 of the M1 motorway on the Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire border. A little history - The village was probably derived from the two settlements of 'Carlingthwaite' (Carnfield) and 'Normantune' based on agriculture and small scale bell pit mining producing for local use. In the late nineteenth century a huge population expansion followed the opening of deep mines. It was then that South Normanton was described in Bulmer's Directory of 1895 as a "village of considerable extent" (acknowledgment to Pamela Sharpe "A Village of Considerable Extent")

These pages are only intended as general information and I do not intend to go into technical information as I know there are sites easily accessible that offer information on all aspects of radio and weather that go into a lot more detail than I ever could.

I do however publish some of the images I have received on my satellite images pages, including images localised to europe with bracknell overlays so that you can see the weather fronts. Be advised, the images can be rather large!

If you find any of the information useful, please consider leaving me a note in my guestbook. Thanks.

Please note that the information provided in my weather pages is not intended to be used for the protection of life or property. It is only intended as a general indicator of local conditions. All data on local conditions is obtained through my Davis Vantage Pro 2 weather station and uploaded to my site using "Weather Display" software.
