The weather held for the opening
of the green. Around 40 members and invited guests turned out to watch
the presidents wife Ellen deliver the first bowls of the season.
President Robert Wilson thanked everyone for attending
then invited his Committee onto the green. A 11 end wapinshaw was played
consisting of five triples.
Afterwards a meal was prepared and the opening day speeches
took place. The President spoke about the new members that had joined
the club this year. Vice President Ian McAlees then personally thanked
the ladies for the meal and the bar staff for looking after us and also
the people that was involved in decorating the club house in the closed
season. The new greenkeeper was also thanked for the effort he has put
in on the green over the last month to have it prepared for opening day.
Hillend bowling club Donnie Noble spoke on behalf of the kindred clubs
and he also wished the Victoria all the best in the coming year.
The winning wapinshaw team was Robert Harron, Jim Boyd
and John Boyland.
