09/06/09 Parents unknown This is Merlin. What can we say about our big soppy guy ?
Our dear Merlie came to us in 2001, supposedly aged 2 years. As soon as he arrived it was obvious he was nearer 4 years and as time has gone by, it seems this was a better estimate of his age. He had been through at least 4 homes that we know of, possibly more, and was a walking barrel !!

From the start it was obvious that people had not understood what a dally is. He was out of control (you could not get a lead on him because he bounced about so much) but within weeks of proper food and exercise he blossomed.

He became such a sweetheart, so loving and loyal, and loved nothing more than a cuddle. He took everything in his stride and was the calmest dally we have ever met.

His conformation was appalling !! His shoulders upright !! His rear angulation would not have disgraced a chow! His back was much longer than he was tall, and he was too tall anyway. He should have been at a judging assessment just to show what a dally should not look like ;-)

But for all his faults we loved him to bits and have never regretted taking him on.

He was so quiet after we lost Druga that We knew We had to have another spotty friend for him. Little did We know We would end up with two. He accepted both with the same calm approach.

We had 8 & half happy years with him :-) & already miss him loads :-( He had such a happy look in his eye and his tail never stopped, even at the end.

This poem was sent by Jules who bred our youngsters & knew Merlie :

Death is like a ship sailing, wind in the sails, and sun on the deck.
When he sails out of the harbour, the ones left behind will watch him drift to the horizon and beyond the sun, and then, they will stop with sadness and say "he has gone" ...but no sooner is he out of sight than, on the distant shore, there are friends stood waiting to welcome him, with great elation saying " he has arrived"

With the Sun on your face, and the wind in your hair, with a full belly, and your family around you.
May you dream of the days of naughtiness and the thrill of the chase when you caught your very own rabbit :-D
Sleep well old man and awake renewed with your friends at the other side.

You were never a show dog, but, always a much loved member of our spotty family :-D
Run Free Our Friend with Deefa & Druga until we all meet again :-)
