OO Gauge Tram layout

Birth of a Layout

Originally planned to be a test bed that would fit in a bedroom, this 6 foot long tram layout developed into a scenic diorama and then eventually into a working layout.

This layout can be transported in a small car along with the operators. The layout is designed to sit on a table or two.

At present it is still under construction requiring final work on the overhead and details such as bins, people, milk bottles outside the terraced houses and the tram depot buildings on the extension require finishing (as the scene is early morning as it is rush hour on the trams).

The Layout

The layout in its present form  consists of a fiddleyard at one end of the street section. At the other end is a fairly large tram depot set 90 degrees to the street running section..

The street comprises of a double track run with crossovers at each end to allow the trams to reverse direction

The location is fictitious but is primarily based in the London area as most of the trams are modelled on London Transport vehicles. A large number of trams from other parts of the country (as well as a few from other countries) can also be seen running so the location can be changed to other parts of the country as required or a totally anonymous location.

Many of the trams are kits obtainable from Tower Models of Blackpool.
