The base boards have been reused from part of a previous layout and track laying commenced in December 1998 with the first showings due in October 1999.

The layout and operators can be transported in one to two cars depending on what cars are available and where operators come from.
Setting up the layout takes about fifteen minutes while due to the volume of required the rolling stock takes a bit longer.

Within exhibition venues, the layout being circular and scenic all the way around can either occupy an island location or be positioned in a corner or end of an isle.

It is also preferable (if space permits) to have a table nearby for relief operators . This can also be used to give modelling demonstrations when the relief operators have time.
