Hornby |
This has been
renumbered and weathered.
Although not strictly correct for North Devon this class of loco did
get into mid Devon now and again. Its too nice a model not to have
one!
Kadee number 19's fit straight into the
NEM coupler pockets after removing the tension lock coupler.

was turned into a 1980's era layout. The motor originally fitted
was replaced in October 2000 at the Croydon show with an H11 type
from Roxey Moldings and now works very well. The loco just needs to
be weathered. Transfers are by Fox
Transfers.

| West Country 'Bude' |
34006 |
Hornby |
A much
modified proprietary loco with extra long smoke deflectors which was
unique to 'Bude'. The slide bar has been added to this early re -
release as the later Hornby locos had this added. The tender has
been modified using plastic sheet to represent the later cut down
sides. This has now been retired from shows and has been replaced with the newer Hornby model. |

| Merchant Navy
'New Zealand Line''
|
35021 |
Hornby |
This is one
of the
best locos Hornby have produced to date so apart from cutting out the
plastic coal load, constructing a coal bunker and adding a half load
of coal and weathering the loco not much else has been done.
As far as we are aware these locos never
made it to North Devon but this was a too nice a loco not to have on
the layout.

| Merchant Navy
'Elder Fyffes'
|
35016 |
Latest Hornby
release |
Much the same as
'New Zealand Line' except that Hornby have now used the chassis
block off the West Country locos and therefore requires the front
steps and brake rods to be fixed after purchasing. Also it comes
fitted with NEM coupler pockets allowing a straight swap for NEM
Kadee couplers. |

| Class 08 shunter |
|
New Hornby model |
This is a very
very nice model and runs so well it is often used as the station
shunter. It also has finer coupling rods than the Bachmann one so
can run on all parts of the layout. NEM Kadees fit straight into the
coupler pockets.
|
| Class 08 shunter |
D3729 |
Bachmann |
Very nice model
that has been weathered. Problem is that the coupling rods hit the
platform face as they stick out a bit too far. This loco is likely
to be retired now that the new Hornby one is in use.
|
| Class 22 North
British Hydraulic |
|
Hornby |
This was built
using the Hornby Class 29 body cut down and the grilles from the
Craftsman kit used. The chassis is scratch built with a Branchlines
motor bogie fitted with spoked wheels. The bogie sides were cast by
a friend who did intend to bring out a resin / white metal kit some
years ago but never did.
The Silver Fox kit is a nice resin
kit which has been released since this loco was modified.
This has been fitted with a Howes class
35 Loksound decoder
|
| Hymek Class 35 |
|
Heljan |
A very nice model
, this will almost certainly replace the modified Hornby one below
once it has been renumbered and weathered and fitted with NEM type
Kadee couplers that are a straight swap for the NEM type tension
lock couplers.
|
| Hymek class 35 |
|
Hornby |
This loco has had
the body sides reprofiled to mach that of the protoype. The windows
have also been enlarged and flush glazed. With the purchase
of the new Heljan model this loco has now been retired.

Southern Pride /Comet |
This coach consist of a Southern Pride
body shell will Comet etched brass sides. This is numbered as per
the coach used for a while on the Torrington to Halwill Junction
service. |
| Maunsell coaches |
|
New Hornby models |
These obtained during 2008 are now having
Kadees fitted and weathered, so will eventually replace the Ian Kirk
ones at shows - shame in many ways as many details added to the Ian
Kirk ones but yet the Hornby ones look much better!
|
| Maunsell coaches |
|
Ian Kirk Kits |
These coaches are the mainstay of the
passenger fleet. They have extra detail added to the underframes such
as the dynamo belts etc. Corridor connections have also been added
along with door handles and grab rails.
Kadee number 5's have been fitted to the bogies. The new Hornby
Mansell coaches are very nice and it is tempting to replace these
coaches but as so much work has been done on them we shall wait and
see!
