Attachments.Introduction
As this site was primarily intended for those within the Spiritualist movement I've made the assumption that those interested will have a mediumistic background and be familiar with general concepts and terminology, though it will hopefully also be useful to those experiencing spirit related problems and needing some background information on what's happening.
It might also go some way towards rectifying the issue of Spiritualists who either don't believe there is such a thing as rescue work, or who just don't understand why it should be in any way necessary.Earthbound Spirit.
Those spirits encountered as rescues are what are termed as 'earthbound' and as I prefer to keep this fairly simple, they can best be viewed as those that on dying never got to where they should have gone to at whatever level would have been appropriate for them, so this can include the best and worst of us.
Everyone of us will eventually move on to a plane of existence that best suits us, and is defined by our nature, particularly our spiritual nature, so what is in our head is far less important than what is in our heart.
Earthbound spirits having failed to make the transition to the various spirit dimensions then remain bound to this physical existence, only without their physical body, so they remain invisible and ignored by most people.
They therefore either continue within their own projected reality, in effect their own little world, or if they have awareness of our physical world, they may be free to roam around and make the best of things as they are able.Failing to make the normal transition at death can happen for a number of reasons, confusion, fear, traumatic death, emotional attachment, rigidly held religious beliefs, guilt, unfinished business etc, but it should not be assumed that this will happen to everyone like this, but that it will happen to a minority. Upon dying they may not be aware of those in spirit entrusted with their safe passage but will continue as before, their emotions and attitudes unchanged, some for example will not even be aware that they have in fact died, and lack the awareness to question their situation and understand it, as to their mind they still have a body, which can then reinforce their misunderstanding and confusion.
Spirits for rescue are never forced to move on as it must be their decision to do so, but if they prove reluctant and it's inappropriate that they be allowed to remain, then they should be passed onto guides for a period of re-education and assistance. This can often be in the form of a guide or helper accompanying them and helping them to better understand their situation.
However it isn't possible to rescue all earthbound spirit you come across, some will need help yet be unreachable, some negative spirits will be open to persuasion and can then be rescued, while others will have no part of it and being currently irredeemable in their attitude, should be either passed onto guides for hopeful re-education with a view to eventual rescue, or moved on there and then to somewhere appropriate to their nature, see clearance. It's at this point that it's best to address the issue of their consciousness and awareness, especially as this is something that rarely seems to be covered. Those requiring help typically fall into two categories of varying degrees, both of which cover spirit of good disposition and the less pleasant variety.
1:
Some will be quite aware of their situation and be as intelligent and articulate as they were in life with the ability to rationalize.
The more aware ones will frequently be encountered either within our own homes or wherever you are called to visit and they may or may not have any connection with the place, in fact they may well be free to go wherever they choose.2:
Some will display less consciousness and awareness, they may appear to be in something of a dream state, and as we know ourselves when dreaming we will accept just about anything without question or criticism.
They may well be existing within their own projected reality, lost within their own world where nothing really changes, and which they have unwittingly created through their own expectations or desires. So this is where we find for example 1940's children in the rubble of their bombed house and soldiers still on the battlefield. Though they may no longer actually be located at the same place as they died.
The less aware ones will usually be gathered by guides prior to a planned rescue circle and will be present still within their perceived environment or 'scene,' only they may now be aware of some additions, namely ourselves.
It would also not be unusual to encounter them within places though they may be less obvious than those that are more aware, they will often present as grey, dull and fairly lifeless, as are the projected surroundings they frequently exist within. So although you may be aware of one of these spirits, consider what things might be like from their point of view, and you may find that they aren't seeing anything like what you are seeing.Because of their particular emotional needs some earthbound spirits will attach themselves to people with varying results, it can often be a negative experience due to the transfer of these emotions and the person may be completely unaware of the spirit's presence, so the old adage of "like attracts like" is particularly apt in these situations, as earthbound Spirit will sometimes attach themselves to those that offer a sense of protection or caring, or for any reason where they have an sense of affinity with that person, so they will gravitate towards those of a similar disposition and energy to themselves, where they can then in turn amplify aspects of a person's personality to good or ill effect.
For example imagine an alcoholic attracting an earthbound spirit who was also an alcoholic when living, they will have the same desires as when alive yet the only means of expressing those desires is vicariously through someone still living and able to drink.
Not only will the alcoholic have to deal with their own addiction but they will also have to contend with the desires and impulses of an attached spirit, so all in all not a wonderful situation.Attachments can also be responsible for draining or disrupting a person's energies to quite detrimental effect, frequently leeching off them in a parasitic sense.
It is also not unusual for those with psychic ability to be an attraction, particularly when they are using those abilities, and spirit can usually recognise those abilities even if the person concerned is oblivious to having them.
Some developing mediums will sometimes practice at home without adequate knowledge or preparation regarding protection, this together with a lack of awareness and control can be akin to painting a target on themselves and saying "come and get me" to earthbound spirit.
You can be sure there will be someone around taking an interest in active psychic work, and although this will involve guides and other genuinely interested parties, it may also be an attraction to others of more dubious intent who may be hanging around.
It is unfortunate also that the Spiritualist movement so often fails to address the continuing problem of mediums with bogus guides who have been accepted either due to the ignorance of the medium, poor training in the field of discernment or both.
When a negative earthbound spirit gains acceptance as a guide by a naive medium they also gain increased status amongst their peers, so it's no wonder that this type of deception is a popular pastime with spirit of this nature.
Some 'guides' may also be false in that the spirit is earthbound yet they are genuinely well intentioned, sometimes even being rather over zealous in their work, they want to help and feel they have something to offer as they may be quite knowledgeable, however what they really need is help to get to where they can really learn and grow, as hanging around the earth plane is a poor comparison to what awaits them in the spirit realm.A further expansion of these themes continues in the Rescue Methods section, see also Attachment Removal.
