London Walks
All walks last for about 2 hours and start and end at a transport link. Examples of the walks on offer are as follows:
- Westminster and Whitehall:
Starting from Westminster tube station, this walk takes you on a stroll around Parliament Square and along Whitehall highlighting particuarly the sites of major royal and political scandals and intrigues in this highly charged environment
Westminster to Covent Garden: In the footsteps of Inigo Jones - Starting from Westminster Tube station, this walk takes you on a stroll past some of Inigo Jones's remaining buildings, the site of Whitehall Palace and the political heart of London
London of the Great Fire and Samuel Pepys: Starting from the Monument a review of the Great Fire and the way it affected people's lives especially Samuel Pepys
The Inns of Court: Starting from Temple underground station, a stroll through each of the Inns of Court including a visit to the oldest Hall and an Inn Chapel. An alternative option could be to combine a walk with lunch at Middle Temple Hall.
The Great Exhibition and Albertopolis:
The Great Exhibition was held in Hyde Park and was so successful that much of South Kensington was built out of the profits. This walk takes you onto the site of the Great Exhibition and meanders through the arts and museum complex built with the profits from the Exhibition.
The Roman City of London:
A series of walks tracing the features of the Roman City of Londinium
Georgian City of London:
A stroll through the centre of the City looking at the major Georgian buildings and what life might have been like in Georgian times
Georgian Westminster: A walk through Westminster pointing out the remains of Georgian buildings
Literary London: A walk around part of the City highlighting how the City and its buildings have been used as backdrops for the best of English literature
The South Bank: A walk along the South Bank - Southwark Cathedral, Winchester Palace, the Golden Hind, Elizabethan theatres.
Searching the Alleyways of the City A selection of walks delving into the nooks and crannies of the City.
London at War A look at how War has affected the City.
The Livery Companies The Livery Companies are an integral part of the structure of the City. This walk takes us close to several Livery Halls and highlights the importance of the Livery companies.
The Victorian City A look at the changes that the Victorians made to the City of London.
