The Crystal Palace
The Crystal Palace was designed by Joseph Paxton and built for the Great Exhibition of 1851. It was subsequently moved to South London, and in 1854 became the centrepiece of the first theme park. There are still many relics of those days in Crystal Palace Park and a series of walks on various themes can be arranged (minimum 10 people):
Take a stroll through Crystal Palace Park and see what is left of the Crystal Palace, the terraces, the first inland aquarium and learn of the many events that have been held there
Crystal Palace Dinosaurs:
The Geological Exhibit was built in the Park in 1853 and was designed to explain the latest discoveries about the origins of the Earth, the rock strata and the animals which existed in prehistoric times. This walk takes you through the newly restored dinosuar park.
Sport at the Crystal Palace:
This walk takes around the lower park where we can recall the many sports and sporting events that have been held there over the last 150 years. This includes cricket, rugby, motor racing, motor cycling, roller hockey and much more. Football has been played at the Crystal Palace since 1861 when the first Crystal Palace Football Club was formed. Since then there have been 20 FA Cup Finals, England internationals, the birth of the modern Crystal Palace Football Club and lots of amateur football (as covered in my book "To the Palace for the Cup" published in 1999 by Replay Publishing Limited).
