Program Troubleshooting
Every now and again I get people telling me that the programs don't work for them. I assure you that they do work ... just not for you it would seem. With this is mind I've made this page to help you. Please begin by checking the following:
- Did you extract it from the zip file? If you downloaded the zipped version then it needs extracting. The extracted program will have an icon of a coin or a sword. If this is the case then you have extracted it ok.
- Are you running Windows? These programs are designed for Windows. They will probably run under other operating systems too but you will need Windows emulation and that's your job not mine.
- Are you trying to run it from the start menu? These don't "install", they just run. Double-click the icon, wherever you downloaded it to. They should work now.
Another issue may be caused by missing files. This is a little trickier to fix but not impossible. If you are getting a message that a DLL file (or any other) is missing when you try to run the programs then please read on.
These programs use common files only. For example, they should run perfectly on a Windows XP machine with no need for additional files. If you are getting missing file messages then you have either accidentally removed a common file during the uninstall of another program, deleted or corrupted it in some other way or your version of Windows is very old and hasn't had any updates in a while.
One example is msstdfmt.dll. People often lose this one it seems. If you need this file then click here and follow the instructions. The page also includes a search box for locating any other DLL files that you may have missing, so hopefully you can fix your missing file woes in this way.
A simpler option may be to just run Windows Update.
Hopefully this page has helped, but if you still can't get those programs to run then feel free to mail me, but please include detail of what happens when you try to run the program. Things like error messages help greatly. I really can't help you if you don't tell me exactly what the problem is.
