Links to other useful sites
As the main Discworld MUD site now has a Player Links page, this page began to feel redundant. Rather than scrapping it, I have now reorganised it so that it is easy to come here and find pages on specific topics. Links have all been tested (06/05/06). Note that some sites may appear in more than one section if they excel at more than one topic. I hope that you find this list as useful as I do.
The Basics
- Discworld MUD - Presumably most people reading my site will already be familiar with this site. Just in case you are new to all of this and don't know where to go now that you've read my newbie advice articles, go here. It has a ton of info and message boards and you can play the Great Game itself through the Play Now option. Once you get serious though, download some client software to connect through, as there are numerous game features that just won't work without dedicated client software.
- MUSHClient - My preferred choice of client software for connecting to Discworld MUD. Instructions relating to client software on my site, especially in the Sound section and the plugins in the Stuff section, refer to MUSH. If you don't use MUSH then you'll just have to convert my advice to work with whatever you use.
- ZMUD - The main rival (on a Windows based PC) to MUSHClient. I have never tried it myself as I hear to many people complaining about it, but it is certainly popular and packed with advanced features. An optional extra adds cool mapping features and this is it's major draw. I'll stick to MUSH, thanks all the same, but if you want to weigh the options then here is your link.
Guilds
Assassins
- Pendrake's Discworld MUD Pages - Sorry, couldn't resist self promotion. Lots of tips in the advice section.
- Malicious' Assassin Site - An extremely popular and comprehensive resource. Malicious and I work together on gathering information for title lists. This site is a must.
- Hotaru's Ninja Niche - A relative newcomer to the list of assassin sites but this one is great for Ninja info. Very good indeed.
- Vashti's Web - Masters of the Assassins' Guild - A list of the holders of guild positions over time. Excellent information for guild history buffs.
- Ral's Discworld - Quite new at the time of writing but already has some good stuff, like poison advice and a map of the Hashishim guild. Also the place to go if you want to translate my sound triggers for ZMud use.
- Assassins' Guild - Rather out of date these days but still has some useful info. Written by Maul, who doesn't seem to be around any more, but his site lives on.
- Guild of Assassins - This is another out of date site, this time by Kesira. Despite its age there is still some very handy info on here and the poisons section (written before poison labs entered the game) is fascinating.
- Jondalar's Assassiny Page - This site is geared towards the Mano Rossa. It has been around for a while but has yet to really get going. Any chance of some more development Jondalar?
- AM Assassins' Board - Um, no. Not the board on the main DW MUD site. This one is independent. It only has 12 members at the time of writing and almost no traffic. Maybe one day this will take off but I think most people use the official board.
- Shinobi's Lair - The one that started it all! Technically this site doesn't even exist any more. People allegedly copied information from this site without permission and Shinobi pulled the site. Some of the info can now be found on my own site (USED WITH PERMISSION I must add) but not all of it. This is a link to a web archive of Shinobi's site. Click any date to see how it looked. Not all dates will work and some may work on some visits but not on others. If you feel worthy then view this ancient miracle.
- Risagallo - This family site hosts many things. You can find an archive of AM Assassins' Guild Charter revisions and previous Games information here at the time of writing.
Priests
- Godbotherers' Site - The most popular of Priest sites at the time of writing. More information than the Gods themselves have on the subject of Priests. The sheer quality of this site may explain why there are so few other priest sites around.
- LaoTzu's Guide to the Priests' Guild - It baffles me why this site isn't rated more highly in the player links rankings. If you want a top quality priests' site then here it is.
- No Sek Please, We're Pishites - A truly stylish site dedicated to Pishe. With a title like that, how can it fail to be good?
- Warrax's Site - This may be a little out of date as Warrax disappeared some while ago but it contains a good amount of information. Where else can you learn of "Popshot - God of Confusion"? A nice site, but remember that it may lack accuracy these days.
Thieves
- Guild of Thieves - An extremely comprehensive guide to the Thieves' Guild. Just look at the number of things it covers, it's huge! It is kept nicely up to date too. Currently the most popular of thief sites and also the official site for the guild, according to the Player Links section.
- Thieves Eye View - This site by Steve is a favourite of mine. It appears in other sections too as it is useful in so many ways but don't overlook the great sections it has on thieves.
- Mimer's Thieves Guild Page - A site with style this one. Atmospheric pictures and a ton of useful info for the aspiring thief.
- Risagallo - This family site hosts many things. One of them appears to be official minutes of Thieves Guild meetings.
- Thieves Survival Guide - A strange little site which relies on selecting options from a drop-down menu to navigate. It admits to stealing some of its information from other sites, but then I suppose this is only fitting.
Warriors
- Airk's Site - The most popular player run site for Discworld MUD. One of its many draws is its information on the Warrior's Guild. Don't miss out. This site is so popular because it is so damn good.
- Sleeter/Gelmir's Discworld Pages - A site of varied topics with some great artwork. The site includes a few sections of Warrior's Guild information, especially if you fancy joining the Palace Guards.
- Klatchian Foreign Legion - Not really much here yet. Seems to be the only site for this guild so maybe it will develop over time. We can only hope.
Witches
- Discworld Witches' Guild (Lawks) - If you are a witch then hopefully you are already familiar with this site. Started by Clover, this site has it all when it comes to witchy information. Essential.
- Witches of the Discworld - Another very good site for witches and nicely presented too. Well worth a look.
- DiscKeb - More information for witches, this time with a hand-drawn title page. Good stuff.
- Glasrhosyn's Portraits and Potions - As well as featuring some nice artwork, don't overlook the recipes section here. If you want some good guidance for making witchy brews then this place is worth a look.
- The Lancre Witch Trials - A historic record of this keenly fought contest and a place to plan the next event.
- Anabal's Trick Maker - This page is a great interactive tool for witches who struggle to make tricks.
- The Witches of Discworld - No recent updates on this site at the time of writing, but it contains some great information. Nice and easy to read too.
Wizards
- The Spellcheck Project - Although not as popular as Sekiri's site below, this site is bang up to date and a first class reference work for wizards. It claims that it is not intended to be newbie friendly, although it does have some newbie information sections. Probably the best site for wizards. Note - This link was broken last I checked, but I'm sure it'll be back so I'm leaving it in.
- Sekiri's Home of Wizardry - A little out of date these days, but this has been a classic site for wizards young and old over the years. It remains as the most popular wizard's site currently, but its age means that it is not necessarily the best or most accurate. Well worth a look though.
- Sined's Pages - This site gives information on various topics, centered around Sined and his alts. Probably the best developed section is the information for Wizards.
- Mrs Widgery's Lodgers - If you are a member of this Order of Wizardry then this could be the site for you.
- Aron's Research - Erm, this site is a little dry in presentation but if it's cold hard research you are after then this is it. Some very comprehensive statistics, graphs and formulas here.
- Stephan's Site - This site is very old and no longer maintained (as the warning states on entry) but it was ok in its day. Has some good general info and a Wizards' Guild section.
Equipment, Weapons and Armour
- Zuroc's Discworld MUD Site - Now here is a site that has everything. While browsing the site, don't overlook its item database. This probably has the largest database of in-game items around. It is not fast but it is clever.
- Simidhel's Discworld MUD Pages - This is a very pretty site with many useful features. Its heavily graphical nature makes it a slow loader but it is worth the wait. One of it's many useful features is Item Archive, which contains over 3000 items so far. It is searchable. Note - This link was broken last I checked, but I'm sure it'll be back so I'm leaving it in.
- Coilla's Weapons Page - Fairly new at the time of writing but this site is swiftly becoming the definitive weapons reference work.
- Ekko's Armourarium - This site specialises in information on armour. It offers various ways to search and sort the database so that you can decide exactly which piece of armour is right for you.
- Thieves Eye View - This site by Steve is a favourite of mine. It appears in other sections too as it is useful in so many ways but don't overlook the great wealth of item information.
Maps
- Airk's Site - The most popular player run site for Discworld MUD. One of its many draws is its comprehensive atlas. Although I may use other map sites, if I ever suspect that one of them is not up to date I compare the map to Airk's Atlas as a reference. Airk does a fantastic job of keeping his maps right up to date. Chances are that he will have mapped any new feature faster than you can walk to it. Don't miss out. This site is so popular because it is so damn good.
- Kefka's Discworld Mud - Kefka has taken over from Airk and is now running updated copies of all Airk's maps. Great stuff.
- Thieves Eye View - This site by Steve is a favourite of mine. It appears in other sections too as it is useful in so many ways but don't overlook the great maps. This is actually my favourite map site as I have used it for ages. Those terrain maps just blow the mind. He maps every square as he explores terrains! Madness!
- Boot's Home Page - Didn't the above site already map the terrains? Ah, but this is different. Boot uses a scaling system so that you can see more of the terrains at once. While Steve's maps are good for exact detail, Boot's maps give a wonderful sense of context and range far further than Steve's ever do. Keep going Boot! Great stuff. Note - If having trouble then the site is click here for a mirror of the site.
- Unslidge's Maps - new to the map scene but coming on strong, it's Unslidge. Some top maps here and rather pretty too.
- Peta's Discworld MUD Maps - Although still a bit "work in progress" at the time of writing these are some damn fine maps. I find they give a nice simple overview to the wider world. Be sure to check them out, regardless of how well you like the ones you use already.
- Shax's Djelibeybi Map - Open the map. Right click and choose zoom in. Now drag it around a bit with the left button. Click on a building of interest and gasp as the building layout now appears above a transparency of the city. This is a very cool map, although not completely up to date.
- Kip Dirtweed's AM Map - Want to know how Ankh-Morpork looked in 1993? This ancient map reveals just how small things were back then.
Skills and Statistics
- Flatline's Skills Page - Replacing the old Benelux skills page is this site by Flatline. It lets you submit a list of your skills (from a list generated in game). Very useful as the site can sort lists in many ways. Great for finding a teacher or just seeing who's the best. Very widely used.
- Zuroc's Discworld MUD Site - Now here is a site that has everything. While browsing the site, don't overlook the Bonus Calculator and Skill/Stat Relations sections right at the bottom of the navigation bar.
- Acim's Skill and Stat Site - It looks scrappy, it only works in Internet Explorer and it's out of date in some areas but people still turn here. Why? Because it does so many amazing things with numbers and is very easy to use. You have to check this site out at some point.
- Filey's Top Ten Plus Others Board - Um, it's like Flatline's site but doesn't do as many things and is not as popular. Shame really. There's nothing wrong with the site. It's actually rather amazing. It's just that there's a better site out there.
Club Sites
- RRU - Official site of the RRU (Resurrection and Recovery Unit). They are the best emergency service on the Disc. These guys are total heroes and if you don't know about them you are missing out. Head to this site for full details of how they can help you.
- The Society of the Higher Arts - Event Calendar - I was one of the founder members of this club. Unfortunately we are far to exclusive to have a public website and access is restricted to members only for all of the secret information. As a service to the public though we do maintain this event calendar. It lists player run (in-game) events and also the regular coded events that happen throughout the year. Note - This link was broken last I checked, but I'm sure it'll be back so I'm leaving it in.
- Tshop Spotters - This is the largest club on the Disc. The idea is that you can contact a club member and (hopefully) get info on where to find the Traveling Shop. I'm a member. Check out this site and see if you wish to join. The site itself hasn't been updated in a while but the club is still going strong.
- Taxi - The official site of the Taxi club. Want to get to just about anywhere on the Disc by getting a friendly wizard to teleport you or priest to passage you? You need Taxi.
Art and Pictures
- Hall of Shame - See what Discworld MUD players look like in real life! You can submit a photo of yourself for inclusion too. Tons of fun!
- Character Portraits by Medea/Hecate - Some lovely CG images of a selection of player characters from Discworld MUD. Absolutely brilliant stuff. I use the Assassin group picture as my desktop wallpaper on my laptop.
- Punarina's Discworlde Gallerye - Another site of stunning portraits. Again, these are CG works of art and are essential viewing. Totally stunning.
- Glasrhosyn's Portraits and Potions - Yet more high quality portraits of Discworld MUD player characters. Well worth a look.
- Amade's Artwork - At the time of writing only some unfinished work is available here but it shows a lot of promise. Thanks go to Tanya for making me aware of this site.
- Stith's Pictures - If you prefer hand-drawn art then check out Stith's talented work. Some great stuff here.
- Sleffie's Fighting Animations - Sleffie takes combat logs and makes animations to show how it might have looked. Both the log and the animation can be viewed and compared. Very funny.
- Discworld Hot or Not - Lowering the tone slightly we have this site. This is similar to the Hall of Shame but allows people to vote on who they like and contact any members of the community who are looking for company. Hall of Shame is good fun but this just seems tacky.
Miscellaneous
- Discworld Revealed - A stylish site if ever I saw one! Very comprehensive but not updated in some time (at time of writing this entry). Check it out. There's got to be something here of interest, it's huge!
- Pthag's Site - Don't be put off by the odd design. Lot's of info here including a great Discworld MUD slang dictionary. Now even I can understand what the oldbies are on about! Thank you Pthag. Note - This link was broken last I checked, but I'm sure it'll be back so I'm leaving it in.
